Nothing new under the sun?
…How about Under the Moon?

“Moonlight”, the debut CD by Under the Moon, is a unique blend of 10 exciting, original Jazz, Blues and Latin tunes. From the Killer Joe groove of “Here in the Moonlight”; the Basia-esque, “Only a Fool”; the Manhattan Transfer-like, “Coolcat”;
to the funky, ‘Guess Wut?’; Under the Moon delivers a swingin’, sophisticated ~ tight but loose ~ New York vibe throughout.

Under the Moon is a jazz piano trio, featuring vocalist Lili Layton ~ augmented by sax and trumpet; with such San Francisco Bay Area musicians as: Jimmy Layton (piano, organ, elec piano), Jay Goetting (bass), Harvey Wainapel (tenor sax), Lincoln Adler (tenor & soprano sax), Erik Jekabson (trumpet, flugelhorn), Chuck MacKinnon (trumpet, flugelhorn), Jeff Leighton (harmonica).

I don't dance, but could imagine dancers loving this
I'm listening to the CD now on my iPod. Nice mix and balance. Smooth, swingin', sophisticated, tight but loose are all words that come to mind.
I've listened to the whole CD on my iPod once at work. Now I'm home and this is what comes to mind on this listen.

Here In The Moonlight - It has "Killer Joe" all up inside and out. Nice swing. It makes a nice bed for Lili to do her thing.

Only A Fool - it has a nice Samba groove. It's making me want to play along. I love Lili's relaxed voice. I like it when she streches her voice. Nice space between the notes! Relax and groove. Good driving tune.

Can't Unring A Bell - Nice groove, vocals, story, horn lines, chromatic climb and descend, tempo and groove change. It's got it all.

Coolcat - This one pulls me in and says play this groove. I like Lili's voice the best here.

Lemonade - Miles Davis "Kind Of Blue" vibe with nice tempo change.

The Lucky One - Nice groove and comping. Nice horn solo.

Everybody Wants My Dog - Nice bluesy tune. I like Lili's singing here. Jeff lags the piano in some spots during the verse. His solo is nice. I like the intro to the tune. (Freddy Freeloader) with a dreamy distance then hip drums.

Take O Take - Very sophisticated sound. I like the intro. Tasty. Samba, Samba, Samba! Great job. Lili's voice is smooth as velvet here. It almost sounds like the sax. Nice mix. Thr bass player sounds a lot like Ron Carter, and Paul Chambers. Total pros here.

Metamorphosis - I like the groove of this song and the serious but dreamy lead in to the vocal section. Nice.

Guess Wut - The groove and sax line are awesome! It's hard not to get infected by this song. It's got that New York vibe.

Actually this whole CD has a New York Vibe.

I love this title!
I really love these original tunes...they have an upbeat sound and the vocals mix with the music as if they were another instrument. Great Job! Look forward to more from these artists, but will enjoy listening to these tracks in the meantime.
