Brad at CD Baby

When the thick-as-a-brick bass line rolls and rumbles, ushering in the stomp-hard drums that begin "I Can't Stand," the first of six propulsive cuts on the EP from this 60's-inspired Boston four-piece, you'll feel your arteries begin to throb with the rhythm. When the guitars break through and the group-vocal chorus gets churning, you should feel yourself reaching a rolling boil. And by the time the cut's over and you're moving forward, immersing yourself in the initially Kinks-y riff that begins the ultra-catchy "Pebble In My Sea," your head should be ready to pop off. This is garage rock, sure, but the production here is more crisp than what you'd normally associate with the genre, and the band doesn't pride itself on being some ramshackle outfit that's constantly on the verge of disintegration. And that's the difference here. This is solid rock and roll, with a heavy rhythm section and a lead vocalist who sounds like he's legitimately giving it all he's got. Couple that with songs that get stuck in your head, and you've got yourself a very nice debut. Very nice.
