Album Notes
Originally from the United States, Dr. Aaron Wilson joined the faculty at Brandon University’s School of Music as the Assistant Professor of Low Brass in 2014. Wilson has performed all over the world, most recently in Switzerland, Berlin, and at the International Trombone Festival in Iowa. Additionally, he has played with several professional ensembles including the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, Regina Symphony Orchestra, International Tuba Quartet, and the Brandon Chamber Players.

The Prairie Trombonist is my first solo album and it includes several new and classic works for trombone. The album begins with a newly commissioned work by Manitoban composer, Kenley Kristofferson, based on the works of famed choral composer, Morten Lauridsen. That is followed by two classics, Brad Edwards' "Blue Wolf" and Richard Monaco's "Sonata for Trombone and Piano." Next is the "Dutch Suite" by PDQ Bach featuring Dr. Douglas Black on tuba. The album continues with George Gershwin's "Three Preludes," arranged by Ralph Sauer. Lastly, I've included a live recording of a collaboration with Indigenous performance artist, Peter Morin. This was recorded in the Lorne Watson Recital Hall at Brandon University in January, 2018 as part of a Brandon Chamber Players concert. The wonderful musician, Nancy Davis, provided all of the collaborative piano playing for this album.

I'd like to thank all of my musical collaborators, Nancy Davis, Douglas Black, and Peter Morin, for giving their time and energy to this album. It is an honour and privilege to perform with you all. I'd also like to thank Kip Williams and Jaime Lagueruela for recording and engineering this album. Thank you to my friend and fellow trombonist, Daniel Rice, for listening in on a few of the recording sessions. Thank you to the Brandon University Research Committee for awarding me a grant that helped cover a huge portion of this project. Thanks also go to Kenley Kristofferson for writing me such a wonderful piece to play and record. Thank you to my Mom, Dad, and my Mother-In-Law, Lynda Hill, for supporting me throughout the recording process and my career in general. Lastly, I owe my biggest thanks to my amazing wife, Kate Hill, for being such a terrific partner. She has cheered me on through this entire process and I can't possibly express how much her love and support has meant to me over the years.

This album was recorded, edited, and mastered with Teronus Music in Kernersville, NC.
