Album Notes
Be sure to check out The Incantation--the new release by Absinthe Martyrs containing seven rocking anthems to the mystic, the haunted, the beloved.

The Incantation is the debut album from Absinthe Martyrs. With instrumentation ranging from fierce lead guitar to frenzied accordion, and lead and harmony vocals from three of the four band members, this album satisfies with a sound that travels from art rock through psychedelia.

The lyrics work on multiple levels, and listeners may find themselves pondering various layers of meanings. The lyrics are delivered by male and female lead vocalists who at times deliver songs solo and at times sing in harmony.

Opening with “The Principles of Pleasure,” a tour de force that moves from the psychedelic into a guitar-heavy jam, the album continues through ballads such as “Cassandra Sings” and “Doo Wop and Dervish” and hard rockers such as “Afterglow” and “AK as the Puppet Show.”

In between is “As If a Dream,” a love song in three movements. The haunting, and haunted, “The Lady Eve,” with back masked lead guitars and fuzzed out main riffs closes the cd.

Absinthe Martyrs are Kay Harper, lead vocalist; J. B. Yasick, Jr., lead guitarist; malley, piano. keyboards, percussion, and drums; and John Gall, lead and rhythm guitars, bass, and accordion. Words and music by John Gall.
