ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"Accordion Crimes was an unexpected hit at the 2004 Distillery Jazz Festival and was thus invited back for 2005. They again wowed the audience with engaging and heartfelt music. At times mellow yet passionate, easy going and hard driving, sentimental then funky and quirky; at all times, entertaining. Accordion Crimes is a crowd pleasing act suitable for a folk, pop, or jazz audience which cuts across demographic lines with their humour and musical excellence. They probably sold more CDs than any band in the festival!"
-Larry Rossignol, Director, Distillery Jazz Festival, Toronto.

ACCORDION CRIMES is comprised of three accomplished musicians. Penner MacKay, Rich Moore, and Mark Lalama have long been sought-after live and studio session musicians. Individually, their respective crafts have taken them through countless performances and around the world. You have undoubtedly and unwittingly heard their contributions on film soundtracks, commercial recordings, televison shows, jingles, and radio. When they come together as Accordion Crimes they create something very special. By using traditional instruments in untraditional settings, they create a very unique musical experience. A bed of exotic global percussion melds seamlessly with an adventurous double bass, while accordion and piano melodies surf above. Sometimes described as 'gypsy jazz', the resulting musical offspring can easily claim Mediterranean, Latin, soul, jazz, Cajun, and even Fellini-esque Carnival, as its roots. Like the Annie Proulx novel which spawned its name, Accordion Crimes has transported audiences to many lands and through countless lifetimes via its original compositions and impassioned performances.

Feedback from satisfied customers:

"The melodies are so memorable. I find myself singing them throughout the day. This cd is fantastic!"
Steve Corso, Toronto.

"Are you kidding? The cd is locked in place in our main listening device. Any attempt to remove it would set off alarms and trigger a release of noxious gasses from the ghetto blaster. It sounds awesome. I plan to give one to everyone I know for all birthday and Christmases from now on."
Lauren O'Malley, Niagara on the Lake.

"The infectious grooves, the melodies, the humour, the overall sound of the production. I think I laughed and cried before I got half way through."
Ted Lipiec, St. Catharines.

What a beautiful recording! It's simply GORGEOUS!
This recording is a little gem. Finding a cd of this calibre is what makes independent music so much fun. Accordion Crimes is at once mellow, intense and full of flavours. This cd is the perfect soundtrack for a dinner party, a drive in the country or a Sunday morning coffee and newspaper session. Listen to it, buy it, taste it....it will move you.

Wonderful, a breath of fresh air, exemplary musicianship and just fun to listen
I hadn't really listened to accordion music since I was young watching Lawrence Welk with Grandma & Grandpa. This CD is not "champagne bubble music". It's outstanding and I highly recommend all give it a listen. It's jazzy, hip, romantic and an overall great musical experience. Love it all, great bass line throughout. I'm so glad I bought this CD.

Einfach Gut
Ungewöhnlich, einfühlsam und das alles durch ein Instrument, was ich immer nur mit Tango oder Seemannslieder in Verbindung brachte.

It's like MM&W,Zappa, Piazzola, Jobim, Zorn , and a taiko ensemble at one helluv
Man, what a great cd!!!!! Very, very cool- a great tunes, great playing. Nana's aunt is here, visiting from Japan. She came into the room as I was listening, and she stopped dead in her tracks. She stood there silent, listening for about a minute. Then she turned to me and said(in her best English...) "good feeling" I couldn't have said it better. I can't believe how many styles you guys have pulled together and melded beautifully. It's like Medeski, Martin and Wood, Frank Zappa, Astor Piazzola, Jobim, John Zorn and a taiko drum ensemble got together for one hell of a party. Thanks for the wonderful music!!!
