ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
This album is comprised of songs played on solo (fingerstyle) acoustic guitar. Some are originals written by friends and the others are a mix of popular songs, ragtime, standards, and hymns.

This CD was recorded and mixed in Nashville by Pete Huttlinger. Pete co-produced the album and also played on Darcy's Guitar (one of his originals). Also featured is Jim Nichols who played a solo on "Charade".

-----------------

Born and raised in the Philippines, Ace had music all around him. Coming to the United States in 1975, Ace was exposed to all different types of music. He became interested in the wonderful fingerstyle guitar playing of Earl Klugh and James Taylor. While living in the Bay Area in the 80's, Ace studied with Tuck Andress. For the next several years, he learned different playing styles and techniques.

Ace sang and played fingerstyle guitar and bass for a jazz quartet playing casual gigs. He also studied bass guitar techniques with former Santana bassist Myron Dove. After moving to the Los Angeles area in 1987, Ace played in various musical settings: bass for a three piece rock and roll band, solo acoustic guitar and vocal, and fingerstyle guitar backing up a female singer.

After 10 years in L.A., he and his wife moved back to the SF Bay Area. Wanting to expand his abilities on acoustic guitar, Ace started concentrating strictly on fingerstyle guitar playing. He became a member of the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society (CAAS), which holds one of the largest fingerstyle workshop/performance conventions in the country every July. Ace currently works with Morris Acoustic Guitars of Japan in their efforts to promote their wonderful fingerstyle guitars. He is also an active member of the Collings Guitar Forum and has done exclusive interviews for them that have been published on their website.

Great! Very good talent and wonderfully produced
After listening to the demo on the CD Baby site, I couldn't wait for the cd to arrive. The style of the Master (Chet) is very well produced and wonderfully done. As someone that discovered Chet back in the late 50's and fell in love with his style of playing, Ace Batacan takes me back to a lad of 17 years old listening to a 78 RPM record and trying so hard to play that way. I tried so hard and often that I was forced to wait until my parents were away to listen and practice. Over and over and over and about 55 years later, I still have not mastered the technique. "Coastin" is something I can play along with.....and feel like I am "there with ole Chet". A wonderful job Ace.

Coastin'
This is a wonderful collection. The clear melody of the guitar 'singing' and accompanying itself is achieved very well, so well, one might think that there are two or three guitars playing, when there is simply one! Thank you and I look forward to hearing more from Ace!
