ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Like the wondrously loud insect it is named after, our debut album “Cicada Season” is meant to boldly announce our presence as a band onto the scene, after years of steadily growing underground. And because our band, OneLove, is dedicated to playing music that expresses the rising movement for justice and a new society that values humanity and life over corporate profits, we see the album’s release as a microcosm of that movement, which is the larger “Cicada Season.”

The cicada represents many themes explored in the album: cycles of time, the objectivity of nature’s laws, the power of individual voices joined together, and more. “Cicada Season” also represents a time of super-abundance: when cicadas come out, many kinds of other animals and plant life are fed and nourished, symbolizing the promise of a world in which we can all share in the natural abundance of our earth. This is what we are fighting for, and why we are singing and making music as loudly as we can.

Musically, the album crosses over into Reggae, Rock, Chicago Blues, Folk, Pop, Progressive Rock, and more, in just five songs. We also have a number of songs, not on the EP, that are Hip Hop influenced and Funk influenced. There is even a Metal drum part on the last song of the album. The diversity of musical styles and genres within our body of work is also part of the meaning behind “OneLove.” All of the styles we play are part of where we come from, and they are all at the service of our message and mission.

Nature, music, and revolutionary struggle are all great teachers of timeliness. We are grateful for the patience we have learned from making this EP over the last 2+ years, and we hope it now finds you right on time. More importantly, we hope it offers you inspiration in your daily struggle to build the new world that is coming.

"Passionate and moving..." - Dustin Thomas

"The album articulates the contrast between suffering and beauty and joy, how to live in difficult times. It is an anthem of youth and hope." - Wendy Segal, fan
