Album Notes
"Tell Your Story" showcases Adam Rongo, a Saxophonist, Composer and Arranger, in a variety of settings, from a Trio, to a 5-horn Octet. It features a variety of compositions and arrangements, including originals by Rongo, Steve Wilson, Jimmy Heath, and two fantastic arrangements by long time Freddy Cole sideman, Randy Napoleon. Produced by Trombonist, Michael Dease, the record explores Rongo's eclectic style, weaving through various styles and ensemble sizes.

A stellar band of musicians accompanies Rongo on this debut release, including: Etienne Charles on Trumpet, Michael Dease on Trombone, Emmet Cohen on Piano, Rodney Whitaker on Bass, and Ulysses Owens Jr. on Drums. Rongo also includes special guests, guitarist Randy Napoleon and vibraphonist Behn Gillece to show off their unique voices. Behn Gillece does just that on "Temporary Paralysis," an original blues by Rongo. The opening track, Steve Wilson's "Turnin' The Corner," is an exciting feature of Rongo, Dease and Cohen, playing short, but sweet solos on Wilson's rhythmically stimulating piece. Rongo is featured on two ballads, including "You're Mine, You," where, according to Ulysses Owens Jr., he submits a "Beautiful, lyrical presentation of the classic tune." On Doppelgänger, another Rongo original, Etienne Charles, Emmet Cohen and Rodney Whitaker are all featured playing some hard swinging solos. "Tell Your Story," showcases Gillece again, with Rongo playing the Tenor Saxophone, his warm, but powerful tenor sound is a welcome change for the penultimate composition. The album is wrapped up with Johnny Griffon's "Fifty-Six," a burner which allows Rongo, Dease and Cohen to strut their stuff.

"Tell Your Story" provides an introduction into Rongo's style and diversity to audiences everywhere. It offers some familiarity in the genre, as well as some new exciting original music. Ulysses Owens Jr. states "I truly feel that this debut recording of Adam Rongo is going to send a message to the Jazz world that the spirit of so many great voices on the Alto Saxophone is alive, well, and in great hands!"
