ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Aerynn's first public release features her father, Ray Brassfield, on upright bass adding warmth, depth, and movement to Aerynn's voice and guitar. Moved by several of her friends having lost their fathers over the past few years, Aerynn asked her dad to join her in this recording on upright bass. He learned several of aerynn's original tunes, and together they recorded the live takes that comprise Summer Leaves. The live studio recording preserves the interplay between the two musicians, from the studio all the way to your ears, rather than the typical method of recreating it through layered element recording.

Produced by Window Room Records/Erin Brassfield, Macclesfield, UK.
Recorded and mixed by Gary Rowles at Audio Media Services, Lebanon, Oregon, USA.
Mastered by Atomic Disc/Wavelength in Salem, Oregon and The Animus Ocean/Tully MacKay-Tisbert.

Bio:
Oregon-native aerynn is a singer-songwriter living in Cheshire, UK after residing in the Boston area and the tropical island of Hawaii for many years. Formerly the lead singer/guitarist/songwriter for the Hilo, HI alternative rock band æthyrus, she has continued writing into a more acoustic and vocal-driven intimate style. Her music has been described as folk-alternative, folk-metal, acoustic rock, and other variations on those themes.

Summer Leaves Lyrics:

1. Wait For Me
I prefer to view the world
A dance through warped and sagging glass
A watercolour

Edges blur to hide my words
Just enough to keep them safe
From misperception

Wait for me
Oh summer leaves
I’ve just begun to understand
where I went wrong
Wait for me
Oh summer leaves
I’ve just begun to understand
where I went wrong

How to mend; I’ve lost pretend
I’d crawl on hands and knees
through mud and rocks to hold her

Wait for me
Oh summer leaves
I’ve just begun to understand
where I went wrong
Wait for me
Oh summer leaves
I’ve just begun to understand
where I went wrong

I prefer to view the world
A dance through warped and sagging glass
A watercolour

2. All I Need
My body says that yours is necessary to me
But my heart lies somewhere other with another
where we cannot get to it.

And I’m sorry that he has all I have to give.
Timing is everything and I, I gotta live.

Dirty sheets and breakfast aren’t what I had in mind.
T.V. while we make love is just not my style.

Maybe I’m not ready for all that you desire.
Maybe time to let it go and just put out, put out the fire.
Put out the fire.
Doo doo doo doo do doo do
La la la la la la la la la hey
La la la la la la la la la hey

I’ve spent the last year playing out my love songs for him.
But he hasn’t heard my writing, I’m still hiding, fearing who he is.
Time to stop believing in fading fantasy.
You’re here and you’re keeping me warm that should be all I need.
All I need.
Doo doo doo doo do do doo
Doo doo doo doo do do doo
La la la la la la la la la hey
La la la la la la la la la hey
Do do do do do do do do do do do do

3. Returning
In the yellow glow of street lamps,
three more steps to your front door,
And I know I shouldn't come here anymore.
But I can't help but think about the way things used to be
when we were here.

I've come home from a long time away
I've returned from a trip across the ocean
Soaring in, landing down, walking slowly through this town;
I've returned to an empty home again.

You said, "Come and I will be here,"
You said, "Lie upon my bed,"
I said, "Listen to the truth. Its in your head."
And though its been a long time,
You still whisper now and then.
But in your heart I know that I've grown quiet.

I've come home from a long time away
I've returned from a trip across the ocean
Soaring in, landing down, walking slowly through this town;
I've returned to an empty home again.

In the fiery glow of sunset
One more step to your front door.
Press my hands against it
Just to feel for warmth.
For a moment I can taste it,
Hey, there's a burning fire inside,
Until the sun dips down behind our horizon line.

I realize I came for naught
The heat I feel is not for real
Only sunlight by day
Lamplight by night
Only sun rays by day.

I've come home from a long time away
I've returned from a trip across the ocean
Soaring in, landing down, walking slowly through this town;
I've returned to an empty home
Your empty home, our empty home
I've come home to an empty home again.

4. Valentine’s Day
I tried to write you a song.
But you’re too close; my eyes just blur around you.
A hint to give in to the dark,
As if my closing eyes could open up my heart, my heart.

Woe flows easy through my mind.
Simple surface; two dimensions; not hard to describe.
But words to fit the shape of you
Are volumes stored somewhere
and I can’t seem to find them, find them.

Need to step back
To somewhere I can find you
Need to step back
A distance more removed from
I need to step back
And bring you into clearer view
I need to step back
And take this someplace new.

Need to step back
To somewhere I can find you
Need to step back
A distance more removed from
I need to step back
And bring you into clearer view
I need to step back
And take this someplace new.

I tried to write you this song.

5. If The Ocean Had No Edge
This is a song I’ll never play for you,
About a story that may never come true.
This is a letter I won’t send about the way it has to end;
No I can’t pretend that I’m all here when I’m not here, see,

I don’t believe in sunsets that don’t set.
Never seen a rainbow with no faded ends,
Infusing me with pink and red--
Anticipation to feel blue again.
The contrast keeps me here when I’m not clear, but,

Would you swim,
if the ocean had no edge?
if the ocean had no edge,
knowing there’s no rocky shore,
or sand to hold your weary soul?

There lived a priestess on a perfect lake.
She let the wind blow through when her water felt safe,
Creating replicas of waves
To pass the days inside an empty place,
A static haze, a time contrived to mask her
“Face the salt today”, she sings,
Making way for greater dreams.
Oh, but how it stings the skin,
A voice says “Love, my dear, and let me in,”
Let me in, but,

Would you swim,
if the ocean had no edge?
if the ocean had no edge,
knowing there’s no rocky shore,
or sand to hold your weary soul?
