The story...
I met Steve at my first solo gig in Macclesfield in 2015, at Mash Guru Bar. We connected immediately on topics such as acoustic pianos and minor chords; jam sessions began soon after and led to many gigs together.

The idea for a Christmas carol album side project arose in December 2016, after Steve and I were asked to perform seasonal music for Christmas markets, including our beloved Treacle Market in Macclesfield. Steve's sudden and tragic death in late October 2017 left our Christmas album partially finished.   We had decided that very week to postpone to 2018. However, with Steve’s passing, I knew I had to release our carol collection for Christmas 2017. We all grieve differently. My tears may have been sparse; emotion was instead poured into finishing our work in a few short weeks. All but three of the songs had passable piano tracks recorded, some only days before Steve died. Thus, White Christmas, Away In A Manger, and Silent Night are actually live rehearsal recordings never intended for other ears, overdubbed with backing vocals. You may hear extra fuzz in these raw tracks, but they are so very real.

Steve and I often talked about how some of the most poignant music hangs in the space between notes, or persists in the silence after the final note at the end of a song. My hope is that through publishing this work, we can all enjoy his music interspersed with the silence in the years to come. This isn’t just an aerynn and Steve record, but our whole community’s record. Thank you for creating it with us.

Thank you...
