Album Notes
After Midnight is your premier Colorado swing band! For over 20 years, this extraordinary group of musicians has performed hundreds of concerts around the country for jazz festivals, clubs, weddings, summer concerts, and more. They conquer dizzying charts by the likes of Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Lionel Hampton, Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra. It's modern, exciting, danceable, and great fun for listeners of all ages.

The Benny Goodman Sextet is widely regarded as the best small jazz group of all time. After Midnight's sound and style is modeled after that remarkable group but with a sophisticated and modern vibe. Their hard driving swing is refreshing and infectious, inspiring dancers and bringing toe-tapping joy to listeners of all ages. This music is incredibly difficult to play and they enjoy making it look and sound effortless.

Their repertoire incorporates music from Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, and Lionel Hampton to Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, and Tony Bennett. You'll hear great swing music recently made popular by the likes of Dianna Krall, Michael Buble, and Harry Connick Jr.

Their instrumentation is unlike any other band in the region and very few in the world -- featuring Clarinet, Vibraphone, Piano, Bass, Guitar, and Drums. What's a Vibraphone? It's a lot like bells or marimba, but has vibrato when you hit the metal bars. From time to time they are also fortunate to work with some of the best "chick" singers around including Lannie Garrett, Jodi Renee, Wende Harston, Lisa Bell, Deejha Marie, and Joni Janak. They've even worked with actress Lea Thompson and her daughter Madelyn Deutch!

Their show, Swing Sets, Benny, Basie, and Beyond with Lannie Garrett is featured at the Colorado Music Hall of Fame at Red Rocks! The 20th Century Masters induction concert aired on Rocky Mountain PBS in 2017.

They've done hundreds of concerts, weddings, events, festivals, dances, and clubs over the years. Some of the more memorable ones include:
Sun Valley Jazz and Music Festival
Sacramento Jazz Jubilee
Capital City Jazz Festival
Evergreen Jazz Festival
Taste of Colorado
Cherry Creek Arts Festival
Jazz in the Sangres Festival
Rocky Mountain PBS TV

Their only holiday album - Christmas Time is Here, takes a unique approach for lots of holiday favorites. They combine rhythms and melodies from jazz standards with familiar Christmas tunes, like Jingle Bells with All Blues, Angels We Have Heard on High with Take Five, We Three Kings with Caravan, and more. Their takes on the genius work of Vince Guaraldi will make even Charlie Brown smile! It's a unique approach to recording as well - they did it on a live stage but without an audience. This makes for an exciting and improvised feel of a live performance without the background noise and resulting recording degradation. Definitely a triumph in the long history of this remarkable band!
