The Undiscovered Self

by The Agent-K Quartet

Second release from the only avant-garde jazz group in Miami. Expect the impressionistic style they are known for except on this one they've gone more introspective, searching into space and mind.

Album Notes
Miami's only Avant-Garde ensemble returns with their second release on their own indie label, Abstract Records. These sessions were once again recorded in Miami at The Franchise with the aid of producer Aaron Fishbein. This release has a very personal feeling to it, as founders David "El David" Burgos (trumpet, flugelhorn, piano) and Kenny Cordova (electric bass, upright bass, drums) took on all musical duties and explored much more into the spacial realm than on the first release "Mouvements".

This recording evokes an impressionistic of the cosmos and self awareness and discovery all into one experience. During the sessions they found themselves inspired by Monet paintings and the readings of C.G. Jung and Stephen Hawking. It's filled with moments of intense inner thought and abstract outburst all wrapped into one performance. The recording was done in two parts, piano and drums recorded on one day, then trumpet / flugelhorn, bass and percussion on the next day. The tracks were then assembled as one and all the performances were first takes with a minimalist approach on the mixing. This sophomore effort will no doubt mark The Agent-K Quartet as one of the most interesting and exploratory artist to come out of the Miami music scene.
