ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
From ABIDJAN to AUSTIN, AIMANN RAAD!
by Sista Irie
AIMANN RAAD is a self taught guitarist, singer, producer and production company director who hails from the Ivory Coast, West Africa, and where diverse musical genres are widely appreciated. Even so, it was Jamaican culture and music that spoke to him at an early age. In high school, he began his reggae career by joining the bands, Kingston Gang Star and the Wisemen.
Aimann’s talent took him from Abidjan to Austin, Texas where he attended college and joined some of Austin’s top reggae talent; Chris Nerren (bass), Jacob Dubbist Benenate (drums) and Marc Shaddock (keys) and together created the band Lion Head. His collaborations include working with the band, Grimy Styles, giving Aimann solid experience playing in Austin music venues, festivals and parties. His work with Grimy Styles resulted in the recording of “Ride with Jah“ at Willie Nelson’s studio.
In an effort to search the roots of reggae, Aimann traveled to Jamaica annually. He was greatly influenced by Bob Marley’s music and during a visit to Nine Miles, met Bob’s mother, Cedella, and together they jammed on several of Bob’s songs. He also checked in at Billy Mystic’s Jamnesia in Bull Bay, now known as the birthplace of the Reggae Revival. Further life experiences sharpened Aimann’s musical talents, including living in Haiti where he opened for Kymani Marley. Working with Kymani’s drummer gave birth to the single “Tuff World.”
After college, Aimann continued trekking to Jamaica where he recorded his first song “Wanted for Arrest” with Exa Rage, followed by “Days I Remember” with McPullish of Charlies Records in Austin.
In 2009, Aimann moved back to Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire and took over the family business. Civil War broke out in the country during March, 2011 and escalated into a full-scale military conflict.
Aimann has performed with TIKEN JAH FAKOLY, LUCIANO, IJAHMAN LEVY, KYMANI MARLEY, COLLIE BUDZZ, ALPHA BLONDY, CLINTON FEARON, MYKAL ROSE and more.
In 2013, the band RAAD THREES was formed with his brother, Ramy Raad, cousin Adam Raad and dub producer Jacin. “Jani Be Good” was released as their first vinyl single. In 2014, Aimann was featured on “The Body Addict Song” with RICO AMAJ.
Aimann produced and presented “Reggae Party” in 2015, a reggae festival in Abidjan to give exposure to local talent. He currently collaborates with local singer SPYROW and French reggae super star YANIS ODUA in the project “Rouge Jaune Vert.”
Aimann will release his EP “The Lion Head Project” later this year. It will include the single “Up On The Road”, with accompanying music video shot in Austin.
Aimann is an artist with such diverse musical experiences and inspirations, his works will be notable in the international growth of reggae music.
