ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Bassist/Electronicist Aimee Norwich plays noise, classical, and jazz influenced instrumental music in a drum and bass duo with drummer/electronicist Ian Cook. Aimee recorded and produced her new album, 'Forward to Nowhere' with collaborator Senem Pirler, using 3D recording techniques, random number generators, and vintage analog synthesis, to capture and/or manipulate piccolo bass harmonics, improvised drum compositions, and entire song structures.

The music consists of original compositions and arrangements of jazz standards like Miles Davis’s All Blues, and John Coltrane’s Giant Steps; it has lyrical melodies, and dissonant modal, blues, and minor/major harmonic structures with distorted noise elements and improvisational sections. Aimee plays various basses, one of which she invented, with electronics, using pure tones, distortion, walls of reverberant sound, and extended bass techniques.
