ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
After an incredibly prolific 28 year span as Midnite Band, lead singer and front man Vaughn Benjamin reinvented himself as AKAE BEKA in 2015. Continuing the same furious pace the Benjamin brothers are know for, AKAE BEKA soon dropped the album "Homage to the Land", followed by "Portals" and "Livicated" in 2016. But AKAE BEKA was just getting warmed up. Jahsaydo is the fruit of the experiences of all the descendants of the motherland, as rendered through the lens of Vaughan’s decades of musical experience. Listening to the latest from AKAE BEKA is an experience unlike anything that has preceded itself. So grab an adult beverage (or your substance of choice,) put on the headphones and lay back. Close your eyes and prepare to be visited by the ghosts of reggae past, present and future. But AKAE BEKA is no ghost, he is alive and well and capable of taking you places you had either forgotten, or never knew existed. Combining old-school reggae, modern influences, and pointing the way forward, (Often on the same track,) there is something for everyone.

At times cutting with the precision of a surgeon and at other times lulling the listener with a rhythm as tender and comforting as a lover’s embrace, AKAE BEKA’s message finds expression in a multitude of musical languages, including reggae, dancehall, R&B, hip-hop, and while we are at it, why not add jazz-fusion, to the mix? But whatever your lyrical language, rest assured that AKAE BEKA vibes with all the fluency of a native speaker. And yet, the resulting cocktail is expertly blended, with smooth transitions from genre to genre. And not surprisingly, to anyone who knows AKAE BEKA, the message of empowerment, and encouragement, is consistent throughout. Because after all is said and done, it’s all about the message.

So with both feet firmly planted in Roots Reggae, AKAE BEKA nonetheless manages to show us the future of reggae in general. An incredible feat perhaps, but if anyone could have pulled it off, it is surely Vaughn Benjamin.

"Jahsaydo" is the first album to be fully produced by Vaughn Benjamin and Uhuru Boys Productions, but UBP and AKAE BEKA have a long history of working together. How fitting that this gem should be entrusted to the same production house. Get ready for the ride of your life "Jahsaydo"
