Album Notes
Alan Friedman is neither your typical guitarist nor your typical CPA. Having grown up listening to groups like The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Toto, and guitarists like Jimi, Clapton, Beck, Bolin and (his bar-none favorite) Steve Lukather, he's fused his love of guitar and passion for hook & groove vocals tunes into this 1st CD entitled "The Test of Time."

Alan and his CPA firm are immersed in the music industry, which has allowed Alan to recruit some close friends on this CD. Bobby Kimball (lead singer of Toto), bassist Doug Wimbish, drummer Will Calhoun and vocalist Corey Glover (all of Living Colour fame), drummer Jonathan Mover (Alice Cooper, Joe Satriani, Aretha Franklin, etc.), singer Bernard Fowler (background vocalist of The Rolling Stones), bassist Dave Stoltz (Dickey Betts Band), guitarist Jeff Pevar (David Crosby, Graham Nash, Joe Cocker, etc.) and many others have contributed their musical talents to this varied CD of rock, funk, pop, fusion, country and power ballads.

The tunes on this CD were all written by Alan, with a few collaborations with keyboardist / songwriter Jeff Batter and one tune with singer Bobby Kimball. Amazingly, this CD was recorded during non-tax-season months over the past 7 years in Alan's basement studio, and mixed at NYC's Skyline Studios by ace-engineers Fran Flannery (Fuel, Aerosmith, Creed) and Danny Bernini (NRBQ, The Power Station, Mary J. Blige).

This CD has already created a "buzz" in Japan and Europe (due mostly to Alan's relationship with members of Toto), with the U.S. fans following right behind. Check out this CD; you'll think twice about accountants.

Toto, please take notice
What a fine album this is. Mr Friedman is honest about his love for the Steve Lukather sound and it shows !!
This is the album Toto should have made. Many different sounds
but all good songs, with great guitarwork and many excellent solo's. Can we please have another album Alan ?

Guilherme Marques de Oliveira

If you are a Toto, Living Colour or Blanc Faces fan you must buy this one! Perfect songs... great production and awesome singers! I have to mention the great guitar work by Mr. Alan Friedman... this guy knows how to rock!

Not Bad For a CPA ;-)
Alan Friedman has captured what made music great in the mid 80's and served a gourmet CD to us. The songwriting is very good. I would liked to have heard a little more *fire* in the guitar playing a la Steve Lukather (who is also my favorite guitarist) but that isn't a criticism, it's simply a personal preference. Alan, you rock!!

Better than the last TOTO albums
It's rock. Songwriting is good, including some killers. And even if you fell that hooks, singing, or whatever is only 85% of the best TOTO, then a killer slap, drums trick, or luke-like killer gimmicks comes in.
There is much more variety (including female vocals) in the music (breaks, bridges, fades) than in the last two TOTO albums that were technically good, but missing fancy and variety.
This CD is close to Luke's 1st album, with less hate in the music, and close to Bobby's 2nd solo album.
It's better than JIM JIDHED and VERTIGO that were already very good. Thank you very much Mr Fiedman. I'll follow you now.

Tyler Anderson

Everything music should be wrapped up into one CD
Who could ask for more? Talented musicians, excellent songs and one of the most incredible unsigned guitarists putting it all together. No wonder you're out of stock . . . more, please!!!!!

A Must Have!
What should I say - This is a Must-Have-CD for every TOTO- and Lukather-Fan. Alan brings back the good old TOTO-like Rock-Feeling, thank you very much!

Stéphane Douénat

Waouhhh !!!!
Incredible, what a sound. Lukather must be proud of his pupil.
The last song is a BIG smile for every Toto's fans like me.
Thanks Alan and good luck for future.

Andreas Hultin

Oh Yeah!
This is a must have for all the Toto fans out there, especially now since Toto has (sadly)decided to part ways.
This cd is probably THE most played in my system this year (of 600+ albums)...

This album ROCKS!!! Buy it!
From the opening notes of “Side By Side” this listener knew that this CD was something special. There is social commentary: Bobby Kimball’s heart stirring plea in “Side By Side,” the Deep Purple inspired “Who Do We Think We Are?” Sally Eckels’ gentle passion singing “Someone to Blame,” and the funk and grind supporting Bernard Fowler’s gritty urban vocal on “Land of Hate.”

There is a mischievous sense of humor in the songs “Voodoo Love,” “Real Bad News,” and the “bonus track” called “Luklear Meltdown” (a tribute to guitar-god Steve Lukather).

There is life, love and fantasy in the title cut “The Test of Time,” the ode to “hair bands” called “Love Won’t Let You Down” and the incredibly perfect “That Dress.”

Yes, there are incredible musicians on this album, top session players all - some familiar such as Bobby Kimball from TOTO, Jeff Pevar (CPR) Doug Wimbish, Will Calhoun and Corey Glover of Living Colour, Bernard Fowler (the Rolling Stones), Dave Stoltz (Dickey Betts) Jimmy Biggins (sax player to the stars) and Jonathan Mover – drummer extraordinaire and a host of others.

There are some musicians that you need to get to know such as percussionist Jen Lowe (from Acres – a hot band out of Atlanta), Sally Eckels (vocalist for LA’s rising star Paper Sun), the incredible vocalist Robbie LaBlanc, , just to name a few. (Sorry if I didn’t mention someone – there are just too many great musicians on this disc!)

So how does so much talent come together? It starts with Alan Friedman. Not only is Alan a superb guitar player – he shows taste, versatility and top-notch chops throughout the album – but he is also a master craftsman when it comes to writing and producing.

“That Dress” in this writer’s opinion is one of the finest pop songs ever written and recorded. Robbie LaBlanc’s vocals shine and the production is truly “pop-perfect” and (although it doesn’t need it) if it were recorded by one of today’s stars would be a #1 hit.

Alan has taken all he has learned since picking up a guitar as a young boy (note the photo on the back of the CD case) and has proven to be a top-of-the-class student of Rock music. Whether it’s a power-pop ballad (the title cut) or paying tribute to his many influences (TOTO, the Beatles, Deep Purple, the Eagles etc.) he truly understands how to write and then take what’s inside his head and communicate it to his fellow musicians so that they capture his vision.

If you are a fan of 70’s and 80’s rock you will love this disc.
If you are a fan of great songwriting, you will love this disc.
If you appreciate excellent musicianship you will love this disc.
If you like to listen to something familiar that has a new twist you will love this disc.
If you want Alan’s wife to finally get living room furniture, you need to buy this disc. (Another reference that you will fully grasp once you get hold of this CD!)

My congratulations to Alan Friedman – this disc has been in my car’s CD changer since I discovered it a few months ago. I am quite sure that it will be in yours.
