Album Notes
Alanna Kaivalya and Chris Grosso have taken the traditional spiritual music of Kirtan and blended it with their own eclectic American music experiences. With influences from every genre—from Peter Gabriel, to Tracy Chapman, to Slayer—Alanna and Chris have created a sound to feed the hearts and minds hungry for authenticity. Their vision is to make spiritual music accessible to all audiences—whether they are wearing mala beads and yoga gear or tattoos and band t-shirts.

Alanna Kaivalya has had a life-long fascination with sound that encouraged her to start singing and explore music at a very early age. She was born with a hearing impairment, but never saw that as detraction from the vibration and sound that she felt pulsing within her and all around her. Alanna has performed Kirtans worldwide since 2003, including at Yoga Journal Conferences, Telluride Yoga Festival and Kripalu. Her earlier albums, Ahata Nada (in collaboration with JohnnyOsi) 2004 and Shine, released in 2007, are a more traditional Kirtan style that laid the foundation for the music she is creating today. Alanna has toured and performed worldwide with Dave Stringer in addition to contributing to a Krishna Das album. She is the founder of The Kaivalya Yoga Method and is known for her spot on adjustments, live music and accessible philosophical teachings. Her study of mythology and mysticism are evident in both her music and her teachings.

Chris Grosso’s 18+ years in the punk/hardcore scene blend with his eclectic spirituality to create a truly unique vision for kirtan. Chris has toured both the U.S. and Canada in his various bands including, Groundzero, Three Ways Til Tuesday and his current band Womb Of The Desert Sun on The Path Less Traveled Records. He has shared the stage with legendary acts such as Dashboard Confessional, Agnostic Front, Eyehategod, Snapcase, 25 ta Life, Today Is the Day, Converge, Cave In, Hatebreed, Mares of Thrace, Mastadon, Piebald, Kiss It Goodbye, Candiria and more. His work as Spiritual Director of the interfaith center, The Sanctuary at Shepardfields, and his writing at the Indie Spiritualist website, have fueled his desire to combine his musical talent with his desire to reach out and help other on their spiritual paths.
