BIO / NOTES / DESCRIPTION:
Born in Venice - Italy (1960); self-taught on mandolin, bass & guitar. After two cult ambient/electroacoustic albums with Gigi Masin (Wind, 1986 & The Wind Collector, 1991), and production of the 1st Caveman Shoestore cd "Master Cylinder"(on T/K), UNFOLK (rec. 1999-2005) is the first solo project by A.M. with many guests including master guitarist Alex Masi (friend from childhood), violin/flute wizard Marco Giaccaria, rhythm alchemist Bebo Baldan & Gigi Masin.

Direct influences: "Fricke Out" is dedicated to Florian (Popol Vuh). The noise ending of the last track was inspired by the magnificent "Metal Machine Music" Concert by Lou Reed & Zeitkratzer in Venice.

"Splendid music" (JUDY DYBLE, original Fairport Convention Vocalist, from MySpace)

"...between electronics and ethno-folk suggestions...file this album in your shelf just close to Steve Tibbetts' releases" (MARCO PANDIN - stella*nera website)

"...Most tracks are based upon beautiful instrument combinations with mandoline, in a way like Led Zeppelin’s “Gallows Pole” was built. Melodically and in sound the mandoline layer sounds beautiful with acoustic and electric guitars, tabla, tonal keyboards and a few other string instruments... A very enjoyable, soft-hypnotic, mostly acoustic album, with a certain progressive vision"
(GERALD VAN WAES - Psych-folk & acid-folk reviews)

Venetian dreamweaver floats upstream
The sound's crystal clear, but the vibe's through a glass darkly: the mandolin is in the room, right here; the electric violin is down the hall unseen (where the mysteries live); the dist.el.gtr. rattles the windows like there's a hurricane coming; and are those tablas really being struck by shadows?

So anyway, like I was saying, sounds pretty good to me. I've knocked off a star because the much-violin is sometimes too-much, but it's a minor quibble. Monti's got this unfolk thing nailed.

Let these musicians carry you away...
Complex, smoothly flowing music that draws you into a different world. The way the mandolines combine with the other instruments makes it very special. A pure listening pleasure to me...

A deeply satisfying CD.
Beautifully produced music that brings a refreshing new angle to the folk/world/electro discourse. Monti seamlessly brings cultures and sounds together in a very personal universe. Inventiveness and high-level musicianship deliver an emotionally charged journey through time and space. Buy it now!

Hip Ancient Blend
A great CD featuring the etherial, eclectic and other-wordly tunes of the Venician composer Heracleum Ipoteiss. Though few know of H.I., and some even doubt his existence in this space/time sphere, these interpretations by Unfolk (led by Allesandro Monti) should wake up the world to his true genius. The music brilliantly blends the classical musics of India and the West with some surprisingly modern sounds.

Intellegent life in a musical wasteland.
Based around mandolin, violin, and hand drums the songs seamlessly weave hints of Celtic,East Indian, western folk, and rock throughout the disc, but beyond that,it defies being labelled as a specific genre. It's a breath of musical fresh air that flows effortlessly and easily without ever becoming boring or predictable.I am looking forward to the next installment of Unfolk music even as I savour this one.
