Album Notes
The Real Story

Warner Brothers Recording Artist “Prince” was discovered in Minneapolis by Chris Moon of MoonSound Studios who also wrote 3 of the 4 songs on his demo as well as his first hit song. After Prince, Moon teamed up with John Rivers, also from Minneapolis, to form the writing/production team of MoonRivers.

After the sensation of Prince began to sweep the world, MoonRivers went in search of the next local super star. For months they auditioned everyone they could find with their own early version of an “American Idol” type talent search.
Alexander O’Neal was one such local talent that auditioned for the MoonRivers writing team and despite his lack of studio experience was signed up and became the focus of a yearlong artist development initiative. His named was shortened to Alexander, promo pictures were taken in a professional studio, the artist was taught studio production and a dozen songs were written for Alexander designed to launch the new artist’s career.

The MoonRivers team took a bold direction in song writing for Alexander and produced songs in virtually every musical genre designed to show the artists flexibility and range. Before they secured a major label deal for Alexander, they were approached by the producers for Janet Jackson, who having heard the MoonRivers songs were excited to make Alexander their next major artist. Negotiations ensued and Alexander was signed to the new team and went on to become a double platinum recording artist for the producers.

The original recordings and demo tapes for Alexander where never released or heard by the public ... until now. Welcome to an inside glimpse, back in time, into the making of a super star ... from MoonRivers.
