Album Notes
Guitar has been my love since nine years old. I have played in both folk and old-time groups. Although I learned as a fingerpicker, for some years I flatpicked -- but fingerpicking is really my style. You can hear the influence of Southern folk, roots, Americana, blues, and fiddle tunes throughout my playing - and even some hints of Southern rock and roll - often with a Jimmy Reed undertone.

I have tried to play a variety of songs - from Appalachian, to Delta, to ragtime, to rock and roll, as well as a few of my songs.

I hope you enjoy, and if so, drop me an e-mail. I would love to hear from you, and will certainly write back.

Peace - Alex

For My Friends
An amazing talent

Jonathan Barron

This CD is a wonderful amalgamation of folk, blues, ragtime and early rock and roll and displays some amazingly clean and innovative fingerpicking I think you’ll hear. It begins with a killer version of Kansas City Blues which not only shows Alex's nimble and tasteful licks, but blends some great backup piano from Tom Gray. Eric Darling would be proud of Alex's rendition of True Religion. In my opinion, the version of Stagger Lee is probably the best I have ever heard. Saturday Night Rub has a spritely ragtime feel with some very clever turnarounds. The one "electric" piece, Read Me, Baby, I enjoyed immensely as it carried me back in time to the fond memories of the music of Jimmy Reed. It's difficult to innumerate all that impresses me about this CD. Its musicality, Alex's, Liz's and Tom's technical abilities and the way they interact is very pleasing for the listener. Perhaps the most unusual aspect of this CD is the amazing variety of styles displayed so beautifully by Alex's guitar magic, running the gambit from his own, very personal songs to country blues, ragtime and traditional music. Where has this guy been hiding? Jonathan Barron

This is Worth Listening To
I think it's absolutely fabulous. The guitar picking is spot on, the songwriting is touching and heartfelt and the choice of songs was well thought out. The singing has a real down home quality to it. Clean and masterful. If you're into fingerpicking roots music then you simply can't go wrong with this CD. It'll reside on your ipod for a long time.
