ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
From Press Release - April 2018:

Jazz pianist Alex Posmontier continues to follow his passion with the anticipated release of his album Coast to Coast.

Coast to Coast is Posmontier’s debut original record with his group the Alex Posmontier Quartet, which features Louis Pettinelli (bass), Sam Bishoff (sax), Gavin McCauley (drums), and Dave Posmontier (organ on “Sunday Morning Coffee”).

The seven track album was recorded at Forge Recording Studios, a premier recording studio facility located just outside Philadelphia in Oreland, PA. Posmontier produced the record himself with assistance from Forge Recording lead engineer Ron DiSilvestro.

Even though Posmontier has been playing the piano for over 16 years, it was only in 2016 that he decided to pursue music full-time. After double majoring in Computer Science and Music at Gettysburg College, he had been working an IT job for several years before realizing he was not living the life he wanted. “The only logical path I could settle on was being a freelance musician,” he says. “This record is a display of what I've been doing musically in my new career.”

The album includes songs Posmontier wrote as early as 2010 and as recently as 2017, and covers his journey to becoming a full-time musician. “The sound of the album is influenced by my interests in jazz, blues, funk, pop, and classical music. Some tunes swing hard, while others lay back. There's a purposeful variety of style on the album,” he explains.

The blues and gospel influenced “Sunday Morning Coffee” is the perfect soundtrack to those reflective, laid-back mornings; while Posmontier’s most recently composed track “Inside Out” exudes joy and takes the listener on an adventure soaked with sax solos and prominent percussion tangents. The album also explores other experiences for Posmontier during this seven-year period, such as the raw and emotional song “IDT” which he wrote as a tribute to a friend he lost in 2011.

Posmontier has performed all over the greater Philadelphia area as well as France, Switzerland, Italy, Greece, and Turkey. He has played with acclaimed jazz artists including Duane Eubanks, Chris Brubeck, John Swana, Larry McKenna, Chico Huff, Tony Williams, Mike Boone, Tommi Mischell and many others. In addition to establishing himself as a serious player on the Philly jazz scene, he maintains a large private piano studio and leads the small jazz ensemble at Settlement Music School's Willow Grove branch.
