Love & Unity was conceived in response to the devastating earthquake which hit Haiti in 2010, killing over 300,000 people, injuring 300,000 and leaving 1,000,000 homeless. While Haiti was still struggling to recover, it was hit by a cholera epidemic in October 2010 which has so far killed over 6,000 people and infected 500,000 Haitians. As if Haiti had not suffered enough, Hurricane Sandy destroyed most of Haiti's farmlands in October 2012, leaving the entire nation at risk of hunger and malnutrition in 2013. The poorest nation in the Western hemisphere, Haiti is ill-equiped to deal with this endless stream of calamity.

We hope that in releasing Love & Unity now, to mark the 3rd anniversary of the earthquake which struck on January 12, 2010, we can remind the world that Haiti needs our support now more than ever, being hit by disaster after disaster. The small, impoverished Caribbean nation seems to have been forgotten, while the people continue to suffer and much of the aid money pledged has not reached those who need it most.
