ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Love and The Maiden by Alisha Sufit of the 1970s UK Magic Carpet psych folk Anglo-Indian band was recorded in 1974, though only released in the 1990s. It is described by Geoff Wall in Folk On Tap magazine as being an album of 'Pure rhythms and painfully evocative melodies, each serving the other with the grace and elegance of a choir of angels.' The sleeve notes are by Davy Graham, legendary UK guitarist: 'Alisha Sufit is a law unto herself. Her voice, full of love, soars and swoops; her lyrics, full of keen observation and tender comment on life, charged with 'grave surprise', charm and massage the nerves of a jaded world with a 'flower power' thrill it would be impoverished to miss . . . No-one can teach you to sing as she does with that blend of passion and technique that recalls the purity say of Shirley Collins or Sandy Denny.' (quote).
