ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
This concert recording of the Allegheny College Wind Symphony under the direction of Lowell E. Hepler, a professor of music and chair of the Department of Music, features performances by the Wind Symphony and Wind Ensemble.

The concert begins with the Wind Symphony as they perform “The Sinfonians” by Clifton Williams and Percy Grainger’s “Irish Tune from County Derry”. Senior alto saxophonist Daniel Kerschner is then featured in the second and third movements of Payle Maurice’s “Tableaux de Provence”. The symphony follows with Daugherty’s “Alligator Alley” and “Music for a Festival” by Philip Sparke. The Wind Ensemble then takes the stage for two pieces including two movements of “Suite of Old American Dances” by Robert Russell Bennett.

The Wind Symphony returns with guest conductor Jennifer Dearden at the podium for David Maslanka’s “Mother Earth (A Fanfare)”. Under the baton of Lowell E. Hepler, the symphony closes out the concert with “Danzon No. 2”, Tchaikovsky’s “Dance of the Jesters” and a rousing performance of “National Emblem March” by E.E. Bagley.

This recording is another in a series produced for Allegheny College by Chaffee Sound Productions on Chestnut Ridge Records.
