ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
This piece was written as an illustration of a murmuration, or a flock of starlings. A murmuration is an amorphous, living, three dimensional shape made out of many small living creatures. It is like a school of fish, but in the sky.

The opening measures depict this imagery by reiterating the same chord over and over again. Each part moves around a lot within that chord as it quickly and suddenly changes shapes to new chords. The middle section begins with a faster tempo and weaves together parts in order to create composite melodies, rhythms and harmonies. The piece then concludes with a recapitulation of the opening measures.

If you've ever seen a murmuration, which tends to happen around sunset/sunrise, you can get a real feel about the pure wonder, excitement, and amazement of the many living parts moving as one ever-changing shape.
