Album Notes
My name is Al Monte, and I am a singer/ songwriter. I would like to let you know a little about myself and the new CD, E Minor Soup. I have been playing guitar since the age of eleven and believe I have a unique writing style. My influences are folk, jazz, rock, and I also really enjoy a good Broadway tune. My favorite group is Steely Dan, but I listen to Tom Waits and James Taylor and believe Harold Arlen was the best tune smith ever. E Minor Soup is a follow up to Go Get A Life Of Your Own, released in 2000, and is a hodgepodge of various styles. The new CD comprises fourteen tunes and has something for everybody. The song E Minor Soup is a boogie, ABIAF and Just A Sign Of The Times are smooth jazz, Foggy Mountain Morning is more in the country mode, and I’ve Pinned My Hopes On You and Still My Love are tunes which may have been written for a musical or Broadway play. There are also Latin influences in Eu Salsus and The Song Was You.

I employed some exceptionally talented musicians in the making of this CD. Noel Friedline (Noel Friedline Quintet) is one of the best jazz pianists around, and Rebecca Zapen(Gary Starling Jazz Ensemble) on violin, and Dave Swaney on the harmonica filled in nicely. I was also fortunate to have Cesar Delgado and Rick Johnson provide excellent tenor saxophone work. Jeff Bryd on percussion and Dru Lombar (Grinderswitch) on lead guitar, bass, and electric piano put the finishing touches on the project. I also have a cameo appearance by Gary Starling, a great jazz guitarist on the tune ABIAF. There were many other musicians who added ingredients and participated in the making of this soup.

Like any good soup, E Minor Soup is a blending of various ingredients and is intended to get better with age. The CD has a live feel to it.
