Album Notes
This musical journey is dedicated to the memories of Fulton Tashombe and Merle Kekuku, who both shared their musical knowledge and talent with the members of the Maui Jam Band. The Maui musicians and vocalists on this cd include: Al Nip on slack key guitar, lead and rhythm ‘ukulele, upright bass, and vocals; Geronimo Valdriz's lap steel guitar playing is unmatched on Maui; Lance Tokushima on lead ‘ukulele and vocals on Wai O Ke Aniani and his new composition, Ko Aloha Makamae; Kahala Greig on vocals and steel guitar on Royal Hawaiian Hotel gives this mele a new flavor; our good friend, Fulton Tashombe, adds his talent on Hula Heaven and Ku‘u Pua I Paoakalani; Jon Toda, instructor of Hawaiian music at Seabury Hall and Bounty Music, picks up the bass on Hula Heaven; Patti Kuwaye's vocals on Ku‘u Pua I Paoakalani brings back memories of Lili‘uokalani; Kelly Covington's vocals on Hula Heaven gives this tune new life. "Kilakila ‘O Kahalawai", with songs of traditional Hawaiian music will take you on a journey of nostalgia through the Hawai‘i that once was.
