Album Notes
I LOVE Christmas! I hope you enjoy these wonderful tunes that mean so much to me. - Amanda

Amanda King is a straight-ahead chanteuse known for her classic sound that evokes memories of the golden age of American popular music. With this CD, she shows that not only can she swing with the best of them, she can beautifully share her heart and soul in any style. Amanda showcases a catalog of long-forgotten music from the 1930’s and 40’s, embodying many of the figures who made up the vivid tapestry that is American Popular Music and Jazz. Possessing a smoothness of voice and surety of style, she has been hailed by New York Times' critic Stephen Holden as one of the nightclub world’s “exceptional rising talents.” Combining the best of the jazz and cabaret worlds by focusing on the words, the music, and the swing, Amanda masterfully interprets the music she adores and performs to rave audiences.

With this CD, she has found musical magic with Joey Melotti, Barry Manilow's long-time musical director, who gave two originals and provided arrangements.
This album fully envelops you in the beauty, wonder and fun of Christmas. Enjoy!

*Christmas Time is Here - a Joey Melotti original
A big swinging number that hearkens back to the classic sounds of yesteryear and brings joy to your heart!

*We Three Kings
Feel the magic and majesty of the magi (wise men) as they travel to meet the new light of the world, the baby Jesus. Written and composed by American John Henry Hopkins, Jr. in 1857, this Christmas carol is the first to gain widespread popularity after originating from the United States.

*O Holy Night
O Holy Night came to be because a parish priest in a small town in France asked the local poet, Placide Cappeau de Roquemaure, to write a poem for Christmas Mass.

While traveling to Paris, Placide imagined witnessing the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem. His feelings and thoughts of being present on that night inspired him and using the gospel of Luke as his guide, he penned "Cantique de Noel".
Placide felt this was more than a poem and so he asked his friend, musician Adolphe Charles Adam, to put this to music. Adolphe was Jewish and though he had no connection to the Christian tenets in the lyrics, he wrote a gorgeous score.

Interestingly, the French Catholic church banned this song for a time because Placide Cappeau joined the Socialist movement and they found out Adolphe was Jewish.

It found a new birth stemming from the Abolitionist movement in America. In 1855, Unitarian minister and abolitionist, John Sullivan Dwight, wrote the English lyrics. There is a third verse to this song with a lyric that abolitionists greatly identified with: "Truly he taught us to love one another; his law is love and his Gospel is peace. Chains shall he break, for the slave is our brother; and in his name all oppression shall cease." Amen!

*Winter Weather / Holiday in Harlem / I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm
Three of Amanda's favorite winter tunes, so she arranged them together to tell a tale of winter romance! Notice that none of these songs mention Christmas...

Winter Weather - Originally recorded by Peggy Lee with the Benny Goodman Orchestra in 1941, this fun tune tells of the thrill of having someone to snuggle with for warmth.

Holiday in Harlem - Written by Chick Webb and recorded by Ella Fitzgerald in 1937, this little ditty is an ode to the festive air in Harlem during the holidays.

I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm - One of the holiday greats by Irving Berlin! Written in 1937 for the movie 'On the Avenue', this song has become a holiday classic. Love is indeed warmth enough!

*My Favorite Things
The classic from 'The Sound of Music'! Amanda has always wanted to sing it. With a fantastic arrangement by Joey Melotti.

*Old-Fashioned Christmas - a Joey Melotti original
Imagine yourself lounging on a beautiful beach reminiscing about the great times of holidays past.

I'm a big fan of Amanda King and her Christmas Album is absolute perfection!!! Every song has Amanda's signature sound of love for the music she sings! She's made each song her own. Every year I get new Christmas music and I often have multiple versions of a song because I love when and artist offers something new for the song. Amanda King's entire album is full of choice songs delivered in a jazzy, soulful way that only Amanda can do! I'm so happy this gem came into my universe!
