Album Notes
AMARU MUSIC proudly presents “CHAMPAGNE ATTITUDE”, the DEBUT ALBUM of singer-songwriter
and trained actor AMARU.

While AMARU has been releasing music since 2008, the idea of releasing a full length album arose after the video for his 4th. single "Independence Day" won a Bronze Award at the Global Music Awards in Los Angeles, CA (USA) in December 2016. In addition to that, AMARU had a steady line of acting gigs that kept him quite busy, so making music was almost systematically put on the back burner. And speaking of acting, he will star in his first international feature film of which shooting will commence in June 2018.

After his win at the Global Music Awards in December 2016, AMARU once again joined forces with producer Marcel van Ling from "MoSound Productions" in the city of Zoetermeer (The Netherlands) to work on his debut album. The two started to work together back in 2014 on AMARU’s single “I’m The One You Need”, which was released in January 2015 on CD-maxi single and on digital download. They continued to work together on the singles “The One”, released in November 2015 and “Independence Day”, released in August 2016.

Writing about what one knows is rule of thumb and all the tracks on “CHAMPAGNE ATTITUDE” are of a highly personal nature to AMARU. Everybody’s path in life is different and everybody has a story to tell. The songs on this album are all little chapters of the book of AMARU’s life and while some of those chapters are rather dark and blue, the accompanying music produces a contrast that is both uplifting and inspirational! Case in point: “Tell Me”, a song about social issues and the insane state of the world we live in today.

“Homeless children everywhere, what about their future, do we care?
There’s gotta be some love left to spare”.

Serious lyrics indeed! The music on the other hand is very catchy and upbeat and it forces you to shake a tail feather or at the very least do a little shimmy! The Indian sitar and darbuka add an international touch to this track, while that throbbing bass line kicks and punches! Another example of the contrast between lyrics and beat is definitely noticeable in the aforementioned “Independence Day”, a song about the relationship that never was between AMARU and his biological father.

“I’ve never had the luxury, I’ve never had the opportunity to get to know you…
Where did I go wrong?”

While the track is about the absence of a parent in the life of a child, something that many people can relate to, the music, yet again, is rather upbeat and cheerful... and as per all of AMARU’s songs, with a clear underlying message of love!

AMARU’s “CHAMPAGNE ATTITUDE” contains something for everyone. From Pop to Rock, from
Neo-Soul to R&B, from Blues to Dance, from Reggae to World Music, AMARU has tapped into many genres of music in order to reach as many people as possible.

AMARU’s “CHAMPAGNE ATTITUDE” is an eclectic collection of
"Adult Contemporary Pop Music with a dash of Latin Soul".

“CHAMPAGNE ATTITUDE” tells the story of a boy who was forced to grow up very fast, a boy who had to learn how to play the hand of cards he was dealt. It's the story of a man who slowly but surely has come into his own, inviting YOU to tag along on this ride called LIFE!

A track by track breakdown of “CHAMPAGNE ATTITUDE”.

01. I’ve Been Expecting You (Interlude)
A playful introduction to “Champagne Attitude”.

02. I’m The One You Need
Heavy synthesizers combined with sultry vocals make for this up-tempo mix of Pop and R&B jam about unrequited love.

03. The Greatest Love (Interlude)
A romantic prelude to love and romance.

04. The One
Spoken word combined with vocal harmonies, a Neo-soul jam perfect for those sunset moments at the beach with “the one”.

5. Gentle Giant
Paying tribute to Prince, the very funky “Gentle Giant” is all about self esteem, coming of age, anti-bullying and empowerment.

6. Champagne Attitude
The title track of the set is about people who think way too highly of themselves and in that pursuit of self importance look down on others. Very much inspired by “Black Cat” by Janet Jackson, “Poison” by Alice Cooper, Slash from “Guns ’n Roses” and Lenny Kravitz.

7. The Absence Of Your Presence (Interlude)
A befitting introduction to “Independence Day”.

8. Independence Day
To feel free and liberated of feelings of discontent and guilt for not having had the luxury of growing up with a father.

09. Pa Mi Gente (For My People)
A dedication to Latin people, an homage to Latin culture. Get into the Latin groove and dance your troubles away!

10. That’s The Way I Like It
A reggae tribute to Bob Marley and his native country Jamaica, a song about living your own life, regardless of what people say or think about you.

11. Abundant Place (Interlude)
The abundance of social injustice, envy, homophobia, corruption and other atrocious acts perpetrated by man, the laughter of a child providing a glimmer of hope yet…

12. Tell Me
Combining the Indian sitar and darbuka with Western instruments make for a groovy up-tempo jam about social issues, rap included!

13. Low On The Dough
Materialism, greed, adultery… and an empty wallet! That’s what this high energy dance track is all about!

14. Clearly (Interlude)
Wisdom and knowledge come with time, that’s a fact.

15. Never
The first of two ballads on AMARU’s “Champagne Attitude”, with honest and heartfelt lyrics, dedicated to his maternal grandmother who planted the first seed musically.

16. I Got The Blues
The second ballad on the album, somewhat Bluesy, inspired by the great B.B. King and Prince, both exceptional Blues guitar players.

17. Bye Bye
Toxic relationships are not to be maintained!

18. Messiah
An inspirational Pop song about the importance of growing up and striking out on your own, to not rely on others, to step outside of your comfort zone.

19. Joystick
AMARU goes RAP! Inspired by 80’s Rap music comes “Joystick”, a rather naughty yet fun song with some cryptic and suggestive lyrics for adults and naughty folks alike!

20. Pa’ Mi Gente (For My People) (Sazón Mix)
