ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
This is the special vinyl nostalgia edition of “Daddy’s Coming Home For Christmas,” a tender holiday song which honors the longing of families to be together at Christmas time. Ami Cannon and song co-writer Mary Owens first met at the Los Angeles Orphanage, where they both were living. Beautiful holiday celebrations and wonderful gifts were always provided by generous donors but Christmas was still a a bit empty for these two teenage girls without a father and a real home. One Christmas, Ami received a very special gift from a kind man who allowed each child to request one gift that he would try to provide for them. Ami’s request was for a guitar so that she could learn to play, write songs, and become a singer-songwriter someday.
Years later, during the late 1960s as young mothers, Ami and Mary would join together again to create this song. At the time, Ami's daughter, Danielle, had told the Sears Santa Claus that she really missed her Daddy who was away. Her father would return later, but this innocent child's heartfelt words became the catalyst for the song. Sadly, many daddies during the war years did not come home and could not be with their families at Christmas. This is true even today. We pay special tribute to those daddies, mommies, sons and daughters who still fill our hearts with bountiful memories of their presence every day of the year. The universality of "Daddy's Coming Home for Christmas" can be enjoyed across cultures and throughout time. Well-known Seattle pianist and arranger, Forrest Kinney, on side one of this record, accompanies Ami on this early vocalist-piano rendition of the heartwarming song.
The country version of “Daddy’s Coming Home For Christmas” on side two of this record, is dedicated to our courageous soldiers stationed all over the world, to their loved ones, and to our Gold Star families who have given so much to our country. Ami Cannon and song co-writer Mary Owens wrote this song during the Vietnam War era when, not only Ami's own husband, but so many other "Daddy's" were also away from their own homes. Sadly, many daddies during the war years did not come home and could not be with their families at Christmas. This is true even today. We pay special tribute to those daddies, mommies, sons and daughters who still fill our hearts with bountiful memories of their presence every day of the year. On this country version, Ami is joined by Roy T. Scimeca on drums; Glen Decker on bass; John Ummel on steel guitar; and Dennis Burkhead on rhythm and lead guitars. This vintage edition was first recorded and produced at Hummingbird Sound Lab by David Casper in 1982. This unique, collectible record includes both of the digital versions of this song now available as digital downloads on CD Baby, as well as on iTunes, Amazon, YouTube and many other popular websites.
