Homo Luminous

by Chris Amodeo

An amazing first release with strong melodies, hooks and transcendent lyrics that is a welcome reminder of classic albums that sounded great from beginning to end. This surprising singer/songwriter is backed by vocalists from Pink Floyd and The Stones.

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Homo Luminous refers to a new kind of human emergence, foretold in Incan myth, characterized by a quantum shift in consciousness to a more essential, perceptual state that is capable of dreaming a new world into being. It represents our collective evolutionary journey. Music has always been able to take us on a journey. At its best, it inducts and opens us to the numinous. These songs emerged out of a confluence of events in my life that I couldn’t have predicted or, through sheer will, manufactured.

I hope you enjoy it. It is a celebration of what I’ve found to be the most transformational place in the universe…the Heart Center.

Timely, Solid Debut Record
Incan myth, a new consciousness, dreams that become reality..good stuff. Most good records start with a great story and this one fits the bill. A guitar purchased at an auction for a cancer-stricken child changes everything. Amodeo, who had never seriously played guitar, started playing Beatles songs to his kids and at his wife's behest wrote his first song (Splittin' the Atom) 6 months later. Two and half years later, Homo-Luminous was a reality. Very cool.

The lyrics are the strength of Homo-Luminous and draw from Amodeo's background in Rolfing® and psychology. They also fit in with the story of almost writing themselves. Ultimately, any publication review will site the lyrics. They are intelligent, poetic and timely.

The music itself is technically, well perfect. The resumes of all the musicians are pretty impressive and it shows in the sound of the record. Very polished and dead on. I especially like the backing vocals. Those ladies used to sing with Pink Floyd. Are you kidding me? "Great Gig in the Sky" no less!

From a personal taste standpoint, I'd like the music to have a little more off the wall quality to it. Not the Michael Jackson Off The Wall...I just mean that by being so perfect, it sometimes lulls you. I like to be jarred as a listener a little. Of course, I am more of an alternative music fan and this is my impression. If you think about Pink Floyd, they definitely pushed the envelope sonically, especially for the time.

Chris' voice is definitely a strength of the record. He reminds me of the lead singer for the Jayhawks, Gary Louris.

Or maybe David Grey before he discovered smoking.

Overall, I give the record a B on the quality of the story, the lyrics and Chris' voice. Pretty strong debut. I think it could have been an A if the band would have been a little more experimental.

The overall packaging was OUTSTANDING! Loved the graphics and the website.
Amodeo states elegantly in the forward to the album (which includes a lyric booklet, thank you): "Music has always been able to take us on a journey. At its best, it inducts and opens us to the numinous. These songs emerged out of a confluence of events in my life that I couldn’t have predicted or, through sheer will, manufactured". Homo Luminous is definitely worth a serious listen.
