Album Notes
Celtic music holds a special place in my heart and I received a masters degree in Ritual Song and Chant from the University of Limerick. As a mom, lullabies are special, too. They are far more than baby songs.

Current research tells us that early music exchanges are important academically and lay the foundations for later learning in mathematics and language as well as music. But lullabies are so much more than academics. They are healing music that calms us and connects us to our children. When we hold our babies and sing to them, they can feel the rise and fall of our breathing. They can see the look of love in our eyes and they can feel how much they are loved. I strongly believe that we should respect our children enough to give them simple but beautiful music as they begin the journey of their own lives.

As a new mother, I was shocked at what passed for children’s music. Much of it was mechanized, techno midi files or womb noises that are devoid of an authentic human voice. It seemed unreasonable to expect my son to like music that I did not. So I recorded these lullabies in the simplest way possible; the same way that mothers have always sung to their children. The only instrument is my voice and the metronome is the beat of my heart.

It is my hope that you will find comfort in these songs as you share them with your family. All of the music on Golden Slumbers - Celtic Lullabies for Babies was recognized with a Kid's Music Award as part of the CD Lullaby and Goodnight - 33 Lullabies for Babies.
