Lady Bhaga
The first time I saw and heard Amy Steinberg perform, my first thought was: Elton Joan. Upon getting my copy of "Broken Open" and listening to her latest masterpiece, my thought is - Lady Gaga -- doing Posi Music.
Amy has always had incredible lyrical prowess and "Broken Open" is no exception. But, this album has a truly contemporary feel, which is a perfect stage for Miss Steinberg's talent to shine through. From the opening "Burning Into the High", which has a catchy pop feel as infectious as material by Sara Bareilles, to the synth pop of "One With Everything", to "Sawyers Song", which oozes Broadway (a perfect milieu for the fantastically theatrical Steinberg), the collection covers a LOT of ground musically.
The messages of love and acceptance and empowerment are New Thought - but served with the kind of bare bones personal exposure of Pink -- if Pink had been reading the Bhagavad Gita recently.
For some, this effort might be a bit much. But, (to quote Marty McFly), "your kids are going to love it!"
This CD is definitely "One With Everything".
