ANDANZAS, Spanish for "wanderings," describes this quartet's repertory-a musical journey through Central and South America. This recording includes a Peruvial waltz, a Paraguyan polka, a Mayan lullaby, a Chilean ballad, and powerful medleys of native Andean rhythms.

ANDANZAS is continuing a tradition that began over five hundred years ago when native musicians of the Western hemisphere encountered the music and instruments of Spain and Africa. These very different styles influenced each other and brought about a wealth of new musical languages. Similarly, the eclectic musical backgrounds of the members of ANDANZAS has resulted in a unique blend and style that appeals to a wide and varied audience.

ANDANZAS's first release on Northeastern generated parise from the critics:

"ANDANZAS plays with subtlety and elegance."
-CD Review

"Their music reflects all the freshness and innocence that is characteristic of South America."
-Billboard Magazine

"The instrumental prowess of ANDANZAS is unquestionable, and the band skillfully 'wanders' with great feeling and empathy."
-Dirty Linen

"This quality of recording will win over a classical 'high culture' audience to Latin It's done with emotional integrity...simply superb."
-Folk Roots (London, England)
