ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes

Andreas Kapsalis' debut Solo CD "Anastasi" is highly cinematic, combining global musical influences to create a compelling and individual style.  Utilizing the full range of his ten-finger technique on the guitar, Kapsalis simultaneously weaves infectious melodies, dense harmony, flowing bass and powerful percussive rhythms, exposing the compositional maturity in his solo repertoire.

"Anastasi" which is the greek word for rebirth, is an instrumental album that features ten original peices, composed, written and arranged for acoustic guitar by Andreas . There are no overdubs or layers on this album, only one guitar and two microphones, allowing for the complexity of his ambidextrous finger-work to shine through.

Each composition is based on a musical reflection, concept or story that touches on various subjects gathered from Andreas' more recent years touring.  Using his skills as an accomplished film composer the songs are programmatic in nature and reminicent of a soundtrack. The album artwork accompanying the music as a whole, is designed to enhance the listening experience, with photo's illustrations, poem's or synopses for each piece.

I am very impressed that Andreas could cover on guitar what I had written for piano. It is quite amazing to hear my own music performed by great instrumentalists." - Dave Brubeck, American jazz pianist and composer

"Luckily, not all acoustic music is created equal. When done correctly, there is something thoroughly genuine about the genre, whose masters employ it as a way to mold the most conventional of instruments into a raw exhibition of feeling." - Chicago INTERVIEW

"One of the most amazing musicians I've ever witnessed. Andreas Kapsalis has changed guitar as I knew it...Forever! I can't actually find the words, to describe his brilliance...UN-BELIEVABLE." - SMARTALECMUSIC.com
