ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Andre Canniere | trumpet/composer
Josh Rutner | tenor saxophone
Ryan Ferreira | guitar
Ike Sturm | bass
Ted Poor | drums

“André Canniere’s debut is aural evidence that good things can descend from the Ivory Tower... transcends the stereotypes often associated with university trained musicians, the most common being that they ‘think’ the music rather than ‘feel’ it... As Of Yet is a strong opening statement from Canniere.\"
-Jason Crane, All About Jazz

\"Canniere\'s music is a blend of electric and acoustic sounds, open to the pop/rock attitude and phraseology with trades through the indie routes. His compositional style draws from several contemporary influences including Dave Douglas, Michael Brecker and Bill Frisell, as well as Radiohead, often refering to both large and small ensemble traditions.\"
-Vangelis Aragiannis, Jazz & Tzaz Magazine

“Canniere’s compositions are a far cry from the staid template contained on many Jazz records... solo spaces that offer the most exciting moments, particularly the clean toned Canniere... Andre Canniere and his associates show a great deal of promise...”
-Jay Collins, Cadence Magazine

“Canniere is at his best...long melodies that unfurl majestically before suddenly flaring up and melancholy ballads both sit easily on top of often complex rhythmic and harmonic patterns.\"
-Mwanji Ezana, be.jazz

The Andre Canniere Group, formed in early 2005, has been creating a storm in New York\'s modern jazz scene. They perform challenging yet accessible music full of evocative harmonic explorations and complex rhythms, complemented by thoughtful improvisation. Much of the music, all of which is composed by Canniere, is rooted in jazz, but also draws heavily upon other genres including pop, classical and folk music. Their first album As Of Yet is the culmination of the group\'s first year together, and includes live as well as studio recordings.

Leaves You Wanting More!
This is truly an amazing collection of compositions by the young New York City trumpeter, Andre Canniere. The music has shades of Dave Douglas and Chris Speed's Yeah No, as well as hints of influences from the pop and classical worlds. The band shines throughout this recording and there is no limit to the group's potential. Despite the fact that there are only four studio tracks, and two of the live tracks are repeats, the album has a very natural flow. My only hope is that the next record comes before this one gets worn out!

Amazingly Beautiful Music...
I heard this group live in New York City and they blew me away. Ever since, I've been keeping my eye out for news of a CD and when it came out I bought it right away. The music is so beautiful but there's also alot of edge and intensity. The musicians in the band are amazing!

Andre Canniere is a mature artist whose subtle and beautiful compositions complement his patient approach to improvisation. On the standout track, Bridges, the lyrical melody line floats over a sophisticated chord progression. Josh Rutner (tenor saxophonist) starts things off with a smooth solo that complements the melody, but also adds dissonance in all the right places. Canniere enters as Rutner continues to solo, and the two play well off of each other, eventually leading to a flawless transition back to the melody.

"Bridges" is representative of what the Andre Canniere Group strives for musically - tackling challenging and sophisticated music and making it sound fluid and natural. Highly recommended.
