Album Notes
Andrew Neil is considered an "Outsider" music artist along the lines of Daniel Johnston and is included in Ranker’s list of “Best Outsider Music Artists”, which ranks the top outsider music artists/bands in the world. When one listens to Andrew play live, one quickly realizes they are hearing something unique, distinctive and very special. It’s a combination of Andrews raw unpolished driving rhythm percussive guitar playing on his vintage nylon string Ovation and his soft yet powerful and emotionally charged vocals as he takes one on an uncompromising musical journey. Very subtly, one hears influences of Elliot Smith, Anthony Kiekis, Kurt Cobain, Nick Drake and Daniel Johnston in his vocal delivery and songwriting.
Andrew began writing songs following a head injury sustained in a car accident in 2009. Since then he written nearly 400 songs, and never had any music training to speak of. In 2014 he was hospitalized due to a psychotic episode gone bad and remained in a state hospital for three years until his release in May 2017. While hospitalized he wrote and recorded 70 songs onto a cheap battery powered recorder. Upon his release an Album containing 11 of those songs called "Code Purple-Andrew Neil was produced. This Album has been recognized as the only record album ever produced in which all the songs are written and recorded in a State Hospital.
Since leaving the hospital in May 2017, he has written scores of songs and has finished recording his first Studio Album, “Merry Go Round”. This Album was produced and recorded by Andy Waldeck, who is also featured on bass and electric guitar. Other notable musicians who are part of this project include Nathan Brown (Drummer for the Band “Everything”), Gina Sobel (Flute on "Tie Dye Dinosaur" and "Beautiful Mess") and Jack Sheehan (Saxophone on "Sorry Kyle"). Andrew’s songwriting skills and unique melodies created a wonderful sketch pad for producer Andy Waldeck to work with. He turned the Album into what many are calling an alternative/Indie Rock album masterpiece, with an outsider spin. “Merry Go Round” is the first of many more studio albums to come!
