Album Notes
About Unexpected

This album started with Andy’s nephews, Sam and Spencer. After a visit with Uncle Andy (aka Uncle Fungus) they kept singing Eggplant Surprise for weeks. Their dad set up a recording session for his brother as a birthday present. Note to friends of musicians – that is a *wonderful* gift!

Andy wanted to capture the feel of a Thursday night jam session, so all the songs were cut live in the studio, in just one or two takes. He is joined by his friends Eric Easterbrook and Roger Blair, both great songwriters in their own right.

In addition to his songwriting, Andy has a great touch on the harmonica. His harp is featured on several Paint Creek Sampler tracks, as well as on the CDs "More than Enough" by Eric and Polly Rapp, and "The Road" by Marilyn.

Andy has given harmonica and songwriting workshops at Michigan folk festivals (Thumbfest, Evart, Goodison) and performs at benefits and coffeehouses, including "Live! From the Living Room."

I'm enjoying the heck out of Andy's CD – I just zipped through my housework listening to his music. I'm loving it. I think Andy must be very kind, thoughtful and sensitive.

This has been one of my favorites for some time. I've bought extra copies so that I can give them away, since most people haven't heard of Andy Mather (yet).

Barb Esler

I have really enjoyed Andy's CD, as well as hearing him live at Paint Creek and other venues.

I love these songs!
I listen to this CD over and over and love it. I'm ordering several for friends. I can't decide on just one favorite song, but the ones inspired by love of family and those that speak of the spirit that infuses all of life are among my favorites. Both the wording and the melodies fill me with wonder and joy: both are reflective of thespirit of their creator.

Very nice!
Hey Andy, just got the cd today. Listening while working right now! Nice, and hearing your voice brings me back almost 40 years!
Merry Christmas and a great start of the new year, to you and your loved ones!

Tim Mather

Beautiful funny witty touching lyrical artistic poetic. Andy’s songwriting is on an artistic and emotional par with some of the best music ever written.

A great travel CD and more
I love this CD! We listen to it all the time especially on long car trips to either Ohio or Northern Michigan. The song "Are We There Yet?" is perfect for that. But we also enjoy listening to the other signature Mather songs such as "Lighthouse," "Lead Me," and "Hinckley." Whether you want to hear something funny or a beautiful melody, Andy delivers!
