Album Notes
City Canyons Records is delighted to announce the addition of the superbly talented ANEMO featuring Hazelle Woodhurst to its roster.
Hailing from Brighton in the UK, ANEMO (which means "changing forms") was formed in summer 2001 in Brighton, England. The ANEMO core is the songwriting partnership of vocalist Hazelle (a former actress who appeared in such major movies as "Shakespeare in Love" and "Eyes Wide Shut") and keyboard player and producer Kingsley Sage (formerly of the UK band Jumbo and sometime producer for Icelandic indie-hipsters Bellatrix). This core is then supported by the remarkable Matt Palmer on guitar.
ANEMO has appeared at London"s Hippodrome Theatre for the BBC, the 2003 MIDEM festival in Cannes, France, the 2004 SXSW music conference in Austin, Texas, and also played at the X04 festival at the Brighton Centre in April 2004 and the BBC summer stage at Whity City in June 2004.
ANEMO's edgy but melodic sound combines rock and pop forms conceived in the fertile minds of Sage/Woodhurst/Palmer punctuated with modern crunchy drum loops, all of it tied together with the spectacular voice of Hazelle.

We love "Slow Burn"!
Internet Music Radio, "Gone Fishing for Blue Skies", loves the world of Anemo.

Theo Wilkinson (Musician/Producer)

An impressive and imaginative debut!
The free download tracks are excellently produced and show great diveristy. The listener is lead from the huge guitar-driven choruses of "Fallout Renegade" (a stunning album opener) and "Johnny 5" (a creeping metal/hip-hop crossover) to the ethereal melancholy of "Slowburn" and the up-tempo effects-laden energy of "Made of Fiction". Anemo are a creative force to be reckoned with.

Goosebump Inducing CD!
As a female musician, I have seen
entirely too many, near a majority, of people
who also fit in that category whose careers are
based on image and physical attractiveness
over old-fashioned hard work, and it makes
me both furious at the state of things and
wary of anything new that comes along.
However, rarely has an album won me over
so immediately as Anemo’s debut, Slowburn
(City Canyon Records). Yes, vocalist Hazelle
Woodhurst is a beautiful blonde. No, I didn’t
know that until after I’d been completely
floored by the CD... Between the funky
riffs of “Stronger Stuff,” soaring melodies
of “Who Will You Really Become,” and
goosebump-inducing ballad that is the title
track, listeners are left wondering, “What can’t
this band do?”

Burn Magazine (UK)

An album of outstanding beauty!
Don't you love it when a band can't be pigeon-holed?

Anemo are a Brighton-based three-piece who have created a stir across the

pond, and are now hoping us Brits have got the wit to catch on.

I'm not optimistic, but those who dare venture into the rich, colourful

Anemo world will get their just rewards.

At times sweeping and majestic, at others slow, drawn out and haunting,

trio have created an album of outstanding beauty.

The star of the show is, without doubt, singer Hazelle Woodhurst – who

brings back memories of Julianne Regan (of All About Eve fame) at her

Kicking off with the sweeping Fallout Renegade, Hazelle, keyboardist

Kingsley Sage and guitarist Matt Palmer take you on a sublime journey.

Johnny 5 is more driven, while the title track is the perfect late-night

chill-out. Elsewhere, Learn To Love Yourself ought to be a huge pop hit,
Made of Fiction lulls you into a false sense of security before the chorus

snares you, and I Was Taken In is full of hidden menace beneath its sugary

People have bandied about such words as Eurythmics, Pretenders and

Portishead to try and describe Anemo – but...the nearest comparison you will get is All About Eve (and that's not just

Hazelle's voice), but in truth that's not fair to them.

They stand proudly on their own, having produced a compellingly individual

album which rocks, goths and pops in equal measure.

Maybe they've just invented goth-pop.

Anemo is incredible!
I love the female voice, and this group shows it off incredibly! Hard driving music, great beats, and lyrics with a hell of a hook, you must get this CD! I played 'Fallout Renegade' on my podcast episode #55, and plan on playing more Anemo in the future!

Adam A. Donaldson, Lucid Forge

Just really, really good music!
In the best tradition of The Eurythmics, The Pretenders and Garbage comes Anemo whose electronic twist of pop-alt-rock comes together with intelligent songwriting and strong vocals to create a truly excellent debut effort. Lead singer Hazelle Woodhurst is truly a wonder to be heard, she instantly reminds the listener of other, strong female vocalists but has a distinct style and sound all her own. Reading the liner notes you start to appreciate the lyrical genius in the words to the songs, but you almost forget it all when you're listening to the melodies. The album requires multiple listens to appreciate all the layers. It's impossible to pick highlights from this disc, it's impossible to anoint one song above the others. This is just really, really good music.

Steve Saunders

One word: 'Sweeeeeeeet'
Dude, this is killer. I just stumbled on to these guys literally a few minutes ago and am totally hooked. My fav: 'Johnny 5.' I'm singing it to myself as I write this. Can't wait to hear the whole cd.

Great music!
One of my coworkers was listening to the music through the website and I had to ask what it was. She emailed me the website and I ordered the CD. I love it!

A promising band, Anemo simply must be heard to be believed.
The United Kingdom’s Anemo are bursting across the ocean to launch stateside with their unique brand of rock. Diva singer Hazelle Woodhurst unleashes her soaring melodic vocals amid a crunchy guitar rock backdrop. Lyrically it’s a great read and good listen as they branch through a myriad of topical themes. A promising band, Anemo simply must be heard to be believed.
