Islamic Hymns: Celebration of Life

by Ani

Islamic Hymns is a new music genre. In this collection titled “Celebration of Life” these Islamic worship and devotional songs are for the first time written and arranged in the Western classical scale with vocals in the choral arrangement much like church choirs. The lyrics are in English, adapted from a verse in the Quran, Prophet Muhammad’s favorite prayer, and from famous Muslim poets such as Rumi and Rabia al Basri. It is the first collection of religious works that is American and Muslim. *Traditionally Islamic religious songs are in Eastern and Middle Eastern languages with musical styles heavily influenced by Eastern scales.
Genre: Spiritual: Praise & Worship

It's THAT new!
Ani's music does, indeed, create a new genre. Islamic music? No, no. Just a bunch of middle eastern discordant noise. Not this stuff. It's lyrical and toe tapping. And it crosses all the barriers that have separated east from west. It's as American as Joni Mitchell, yet connects us with one of the most vital religious communities growing in our midst. If Progressive Islamic Values sounds like a contradiction to you, Listen Here! This is a voice that celebrates our common human values.
I was recently at Epcot for their Candlelight Procession. Full orchestra and 200 voice youth choir. There in the second row was a teenager in a hajib. I did a double take, the remembered that Jesus is a prophet in Islam, too! Thoroughly appropriate that she should sing, too! Now here is Ani, taking it to a new level.
I'm teaching some of these songs to my choir next week.
