The two CD set of The Coffee Stories, Musical Memoir from Cold Spring and Beyond is a blending of spoken word and song, accompanied by the jazz guitar interpretations of Steve Raleigh. The stories, written and read by Anita Rose Merando, evoke memories of growing up in the village of Cold Spring, NY in the mid 1950's through 1970's from a child's perspective, where the back door was always open, neighbors shared the bounties of their gardens and on summer Saturday evenings sat out in their front yards to listen to the Porch Music. When Anita's multigenerational Italian family gathered together in the kitchen or in the backyard to share food, stories and song, it was an expression of love. After Anita left the Hudson Valley to live in Seattle, the antics and discoveries of her own son inspired stories and songs from a mother's perspective.
The first CD in this set is Anita's reading of the Coffee Stories. Each story is followed by a song. The second CD is all song. This is Anita's debut CD.

Readers of Anita's website, The Coffee Stories by Anita Rose Merando have this to say:

"Anita, you made these long ago Saturday mornings come alive. I could smell the gardens warming in the morning sun and taste the sweet caffe."

"This is a gift every mother longs to hear. So beautiful, Anita, both you and your writing."

"Choosing the right words to convey meaning is a gift from the writer. Your stories reach the heart and soul."

s'wonderful!
Anita Merando's pitch-perfect storytelling meshes perfectly with her music, engaging the listener in a warm, wise, and jazzy intimacy. Stories of growing up in the 1960s in a close-knit family bonded with love, food, and song make me feel I am most welcome, with a plate piled high with all the kind of nourishment a body and soul needs. A double CD, and a double treat, it requires multiple listenings. The nuanced gifts within reach out and grab, just when you need that certain one.

How beautiful
Anita's stories are magical. Her voice brings me back to her childhood, and some of mine. I wish I'd been on the porch, listening to all those old songs. These are precious stories, songs, and times. Thank you so much, Anita!
