ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Since forming in June 2003, Anna Coogan and north19 have established a sound both unique and familiar. Drawing from traditional bluegrass, country, rock and blues, the band's sparse, banjo-driven sound cradles Coogan's clear, powerful voice as she delivers tales of hope, heartbreak and desolation.

north19 has captivated a range of audiences with an intimate sound that demands the listener's undivided attention. Evocative songwriting, inventive banjo work, and a solid, colorful rhythm section are the hallmarks of this young band.

The moving banjo stylings of Travis Beard, a 15-year veteran of the Northwest music scene, coupled with the smooth bass lines of newcomer Kevin Burkett, provide the perfect backdrop for Coogan's haunting vocals.

Glory, baby!

Texas loves it!
After hearing Anna Coogan and North 19 on kexp.org, I just had to hear more. I love this album, especially the title track! It's a good Americana/bluegrass mix and Anna Coogan's voice is awesome. I've been telling my friends that she sounds like Kelly Willis with a bluegrass band. North 19, please come to Austin!!!

A solid fusion of country, folk, and pop with amazing results
Stunning follow-up to the debut/EP, Glory expands on and fully explores the themes touched upon on Lonesome Cowboy Lullaby. Benefitting from a full backing band of talented musicians and the long-play format, these tracks work together to create a rich tapestry of moods. From the bitter reflection of Drop A Line, to the rollicking instrumental Colombia, to the uplifting & optimistic Rise Above, Glory achieves a level of originality and depth of emotion often lacking in music today. This one's a keeper for sure, and it offers the promise of even better to come.

North 19 is Heading Places
We saw North 19 at Seattle's Folklife and cannot stop playing this CD. It is like listening to early Cowboy Junkies--simple, elegant, expertly crafted alt country music.

Just what I needed
Saw them at an Irish bar here in Seattle, and just *had* to get the CD. It captures what makes them a great band. I would have given this CD 5 stars except the recording is a little flat- the accoustics at the bar were better. Or maybe live music is always better... Anyhow, a great CD from a great band.

best i've ever heard them
Having followed the band since their open mic days, I can honestly say that this is the best work I've ever heard from them. New arrangments really showcase both the banjo and bass parts, and the CD flows smoothly between sub-genres - from angry and funky to heartfelt optimism to just good ol' bluegrass sounds - highlighted by an amazing a capella solo on the final track. Really, it's the next best thing to seeing them live.

I want more Anna Coogan and North 19!
The debut album of Anna Coogan and North 19 is full of all the great songs I've grown to love over the past couple years. Having known Anna since her opera days, her voice has developed complexity and depth, adding maturity to her music. I can't wait until the next CD is released. More Anna Coogan and North 19 please!

Dig it
Dig the CD. Saw them at the Tractor Tavern in Seattle & didn't have time to buy the CD that night. The CD is a little less lively than their live performance, but I suppose that's not a surprise. Anna's voice is amazing & the banjo rocks. Looking forward to seeing them again in November.
