REVIEW by Jonathan Widran, "All Music Guide"

Once again celebrating the mystical healing powers of the flute, Ann Licater—who masterfully performs on Native American, Native American-style, Silver and Alto Flutes and Peruvian Huaca—creates (or shall we say, channels from a place of transcendence) a melodically and rhythmically inventive, gloriously dreamy and soul soothing third solo album. True to its title, it draws our hearts as an Invitation from Within—an opportunity to explore our inner selves and come to a state of grace and deeper self-awareness on the wings of a lush and often magical musical journey. Many of these 12 tracks include beautiful and haunting harmonies provided by everything from Jeff Oster’s trumpet (the richly hypnotic “Cradle of Light”) to Ivar Lunde’s grand piano (which inhabits five of the songs), and the excellent percussionists Kathleen Farrell (hand held crystal bowls), David DiLullo (Peruvian Cajon) and Jason Introwitz (conga, steel tongue drum) add well placed bursts of primal magic. Yet by design, Licater’s soul centerpiece, the true focus, is on the shifts in consciousness that only her variety of lead flute lines can create. Invitation from Within brings the listener to a place he or she will long want to stay. It’s a musical triumph, but more importantly, a triumph for the soul.

REVIEW by Dan Cowan- Editor, "Music Design In Review"

With her third solo album, Native American flutist Ann Licater presents some of her most
soulful flute compositions to date. All of the pieces on INVITATION FROM WITHIN flow with
a dreamy serenity; the melodies are bright and smooth with a graceful quality that puts the
listener at ease. This is Licater's 2nd outing with Grammy-nominee Peter Phippen, who
co-produced the album and plays bass, helping to give the music its reflective charm. Licater
is backed up by the twinkling tones of the piano and the strumming of electric bass, as well
as a subtle sprinkling of crystal singing bowls, Afro-Peruvian cajon, conga and metal tongue
drum and vocals. The flutes themselves that she plays vary from the Native American flute to
silver alto flute to the unique Peruvian Huaca flute. The sweet tranquility of the album's
harmonies makes it a natural fit for relaxation, meditation and other healing work. Close your
eyes and let the profound beauty of INVITATION FROM WITHIN wash away your stress and
bring you to a place of peace.

Review excerpt from Music and Media Focus
The flute has to be one of the most soothing instruments of all, and in the hands of a sensitive multi-talented artist like Ann Licater it’s sound is a gift to the body, mind, and spirit. On her latest release, Invitation from Within Ann plays silver and alto flute, as well as Native American flutes. The album features solo, duet, and multi-instrumental compositions. Accompanists include co-producers Peter Phippen on bass and percussion, and Ivar Lunde on piano, as well as some of my favorite artists like vocalist Lis Addison, and Jeff Oster on trumpet, among others. Ann’s interest in spirituality and the healing qualities of music is evident on this recording and this album provides a deeply relaxing listening experience. I have greatly enjoyed Ann Licater’s previous releases, and Invitation from Within is no exception, in fact it is my new favorite.

Review of "Invitation from Within"
Ann Licater’s newest CD “Invitation from Within” is an album beautifully conceived, bringing us ever closer to
Nature and to the Beloved. Carrying us along a path through life itself, its narrative evolves and traverses a dozen divine soundscapes where we are rocked in a “Cradle of Light,” experience a “Luminous Awakening,” are taken on a flowing “Dream Journey,” guided “Beyond the Mist” to a “Sanctuary” and on to a “Return to Grace.” In the words of poet Ann Keeler Evans, ...“we search for mirrored truths, discerning where we’ve come from and where we are going.” Tasteful support throughout the journey comes from Jeff Oster (trumpet), Peter Phippen (bass and steel tongue drum), Lis Addison (vocals), Ivar Lunde (grand piano), Dave DiLullo (Peruvian cajon), Jason Introwitz (conga and steel tongue drum) and Kathleen Farrell (handheld crystal bowls).
“The soul’s narrative lives between dawn’s unfoldment, with its glow spilling across deep, silent forests of the planet, bringing shimmer and sparkle to streams, instigating a cascade of birdsongs, and dusk, to the onset of alluring night with its fragrant stillness and call to reflection, an invitation from within.”

The RajMan Review
The title says it all, as the music on this CD is so soft and penetrating it seems to emanate from your subconscious.

As quiet as the compositions are, they are yet dynamic in their structure and complex in their layers, resulting not only in an uplifting but also a thoroughly whole sound experience.

Ann Licater's wood and silver flutes are the primary ingredients that make up the sonic magic evident on this CD. Licater's musical vision is fully realized through a host of other key elements, including vocals by Licater and Liz Addison, electric bass by Peter Phippen, steel tongue drum by Phippen and Jason Introwitz, trumpet by Jeff Oster, piano by Ivar Lunde, hand-held quartz crystal bowls by Kathleen Farrell, Afro-Peruvian cajon percussion by David DiLullo, and conga by Introwitz.

This is a lush, luxurious album that provides soothing refreshment for the soul.
