Album Notes
Can a 6 track EP be Epic? You know, Epic: ...”written in elevated style, in which heroes of great historical or legendary importance perform valorous deeds vast in scope, covering great nations, the world, or the universe”… Another Tangent tests the theory on its new 2015 EP – Wolf.

This imaginative effort kicks off in the borderlands of Southern California, before winding its way up the coast on Highway 1 to set sail across the globe, destination everywhere! And where it may fail to give us the heroes of great historical or legendary importance, it succeeds in telling the stories of ordinary people and their perhaps living not so ordinary lives:

Title track “Wolf,” is the story of a borderland drug deal gone bad which, stamps all six tracks with a spaghetti western feel that never quite leaves the listener. “Where you been lately” is a straight ahead rocker in the style of Thin Lizzy’s album Jailbreak. It sets the scene for far-flung travel adventures using a backdrop of harmonized guitars and a thunderous drum sound. This track is followed by “Spares,” a title stemming from a joke about utility tunes on a set list from a practice session …”How does spares go again?”… The riff spawned that night eventually morphed into an Ennio Morricone inspired tale of death and redemption, ala Dred Zeppelin. “What she does to me” is a fuzzed out ballad in the style of Cream or Hendrix, relying on chimney vintage Vox and octavia tones to emboss that 60’s vibe. “See me through” – the first single from the EP - kicks the party into overdrive with its soaring vocals, stadium style chorus, driving bass and drums, and crispy rock guitars. The EP ends with a signature Another Tangent curve ball, “Hedonism.” This tongue-in-cheek blues tips it cap to AC/DC’s “Big Balls” as it picks its way through a rollicking tale of life in the Bay Area fast lane.

But is it Epic? I’m not sure I know myself. But I know it was excessive, and as the song says …”there’s nothing wrong with excess, so get out and have some fun while you can!”
