This is a fantastic CD by a relatively new voice on the New Orleans music scene, Antoine Reynaldo Diel. I had a chance to hear him live this past Christmas at a little club called Buffa’s and he blew me away. I have been a vocalist myself for a long time so it takes something special to impress me, and he was amazing. His smooth voice suits these songs to a tee and it sounds like he's been singing them for a long time. From classic standards to some unknown gems, Diel handles them all with ease. It would be a waste of your time to list favorite tracks because this album is a modern classic from first note to last. I have recommended this CD to all my friends. Great, great jazz/blues/gospel/pop vocals!

Amazingly Beautiful. A "musical gumbo" indeed.
"On the Corner of Hope and New Orleans" is everything I knew it would be. I first met Antoine Diel a little over a year ago in New Orleans, LA. My husband and I were living there for the winter and spent a lot of time listening to live music. Antoine soon became one of our favorite performers. When we returned to NOLA this past February we were delighted to hear that "On the Corner of Hope and New Orleans" would soon be released. I just finished downloading the album and it is simply wonderful because of his beautiful voice. I love the arrangement which includes a variety of slow and fast-paced songs, but most of all I love the tremendous emotion that comes through loud and clear. In short, this recording is a winner!

Like Nothing Else You'll Ever Hear
I first ran across Antoine Diel on a chilly February night at Bacchanal in the Bywater. Backed by two friends, he filled the patio with ballads and old standards (Cole Porter, anyone?) in a voice unlike any other I'd heard in New Orleans. Once home in Pennsylvania, I began following Antoine's campaign to record and release his first album. This is the result. With a selection of songs that not only touches on the musical soul of New Orleans but exposes the soul of the artist, "On The Corner of Hope and New Orleans" truly shows off Antoine Diel's magnificent vocal abilities. My two favorites are "Strange Weather, " a song written by Tom Waits for Marianne Faithfull (and which Antoine absolutely nails) and the self-penned "I Hear Mama Sing (Luna's Song)", written by Antoine as a tribute to his mother's musical influence. "Louisiana Fairy Tale" and "Embraceable You" transport you to the Crescent City and call to mind Fats Waller and Louis Prima. This debut album is a must for anyone who loves the music of New Orleans and its resident artists...or wants to start. Don't let it get away.
