Lullabies - by Apollonia Vanova
Much like a dream that begins in a familiar place, and in the course of a night takes you to the place unexpected, this delightful lullaby album by Apollonia Vanova performs similar wonders. The album features well-known standards that take you on a geographical journey through time, making stops in: 17th century Austria, 19th century France, 20th century Spain, Eastern Europe and North America, to name a few... Sang in their native language, each song was selected and performed with genuine adoration, capturing authentic character and genre of its time. This detail sets it apart from most compilations of this kind, where Apollonia's talent as a multi-faceted performer clearly gives her an edge for our listening pleasure. They are playful, intimate, soaring and melancholy. They evoke a place long gone, simple, tender and innocent memories of childhood. But just like with any evocative dream it's over sooner than we'd like... Since dreams are unlikely to repeat on demand, having this album by your side, will at least help you get closer to this fantasy.
