ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"Zade's Little Shop of Dissimilar Thinking & Tinkering (formerly: Are We There Yet ???) #003" is the first program in a series of hour-long, audio programs (see also Zade's Little Shop #004) that help parents stay sane by keeping 6-9 year olds edutained with original acted-out stories and sound effects; toe-tapping, age-appropriate music; jokes; poems; puzzles; imagination builders; goofy characters and laughs, all designed to to be fun while enhancing listening and reading skills.

Kids report to us that they like to hear the stories acted out by other kids and that they laugh over and over again as they listen to "Zade's Little Shop of Dissimilar Thinking & Tinkering" (Zade's Little Shop). We've had parents report that Zade's Little Shop entertains their kids on car trips - to the point of making traveling quieter, easier, safer and more fun. We've even had reports of adults sneaking a listen when there weren't any kids around. Rumor has it there is a 91- year-old woman that sits and listens to the program over and over. (Okay so, she's the producer's Mom, but...)

Upon first hearing Zade's Little Shop you may think it is only entertainment, but there's much more that lies beneath the obvious. Zade's Little Shop is part of a multi-faceted program to help improve the reading skills of first, second and third graders.

Did you know:

Kids learn to read in first through third grades but beginning in the fourth grade kids must read to learn

85-90% of kids that come into the youth court system in the US (many of whom began getting "in trouble" in 4-5 grade) read well below grade level, if they can read at all

That some states, like Arizona, use third grade reading test scores to determine the number of prison beds they will need in the next ten years.

That according to the news on CNN, June 20, 2003, 64% of all graduating high school seniors in the United States do not read proficiently. That feature went on to say that 68% of 4th and 6th graders do not read proficiently. More proof that if kids don't get it early, they don't get it.

You might wonder how an audio program could help kids learn a visual skill like reading. During our research for the program we learned that the language and vocabulary benefits of reading to children have been widely documented. We believe that parents today have less free time and energy than ever before and therefore might be less able to read to their kids. We developed "Zade's Little Shop of Dissimilar Thinking & Tinkering" in part to help parents, grandparents, teachers and/or friends provide a reading experience for kids. We take a story from each CD and put it on our web site (www.zadeslittleshop.com) so you or your kids can down load and print it out. The kids can then read along with the audio CD. There is also a word puzzle on the back of each insert that contains words from the program as well as the most difficult words for young readers to recognize and spell. Kids learn best through repetition. Our testing shows that kids listen to Zade's Little Shop, over and over and over again thus helping to develop their vocabulary and language skills. Kids listen to Zade's Little Shop over and over and over again because it's a lot of fun!!! You can learn more about our research and goals by checking us out at the above web site. Thanks for your interest!
