Lady of the Green

by Ariane Lydon

Lydon has a riveting, powerful voice - a critic once called her "the Lauren Bacall of folk music" - and a sure virtuosic touch on the 12-string and harp, which she even plays simultaneously.

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Ariane Lydon's virtuosic touch on 12- and 6-string guitar, keyboards, Celtic harp, and bohdran come from a long apprenticeship in music across 3 continents. Born in Sussex, England to a British civil servant and a New York artist, Lydon lived in Santiago, Chile until she was 10. Her mother, daughter of a jazz and ragtime pianist, immersed Ariane in classical music from age 7. Both parents, ethnomusicologists at heart, introduced her to an extensive range of classical and ethnic music from countries they had lived in and visited all over the world.
It was Lena Spencer who booked Lydon (and musical partner at the time, Jem Moore) at her famous Caffé Lena in Saratoga Springs, New York, while Lydon attended University there. Upon hearing Ariane sing, Spencer insisted, "This is a voice the world needs to hear".
Lydon's influences include a wide range of classical music, music of the Andes, Bob Dylan, King's Choir, Sandy Denny, Simon & Garfunkel, Peter Gabriel, Sting, World Music, Eagles, Contemporary Celtic music, pop music.
