Album Notes
Described by the Toronto Sun as "Spellbinding!", Arlene Bishop is a naturally unique voice in a world of singer/songwriters who must work hard at being "unique".

Performing Songwriter magazine compared Arlene's songwriting to Neil Young, Joni Mitchell and Robbie Robertson, Canadians all.

Born in Churchill, Manitoba---northern Canada, where the polar bears run free---Arlene Bishop began writing by
trying to learn other people's songs. Telling stories of love, death and addiction, her voice warms the coldest heart. Arlene has released three CDs so far, all of which have received critcal acclaim and limited exposure on radio. On television and film soundtracks, however, Arlene's music has been widely heard (the wonderful Allan Moyle-directed "New Waterford Girl", the Rob Lowe-HBO feature "First Degree", the Nastassia Kinski/Stephen Baldwin feature "Say Nothing", the series "Madison", the Fred Ward/Christopher Plummer feature "Full Disclosure" and others). Funny, charming and highly respected in her hometown of Toronto, Arlene has opened for artists as diverse as Ani DiFranco, Barenaked Ladies, Bruce Cockburn and the Beach Boys. Releasing "Pinky" in 1996, Arlene followed with "Snarky Girlpop" in spring of 2000. Arlene then recorded this, her third album, called "Cut A Man's Heart Out" (Meant metaphorically, the title is not advocating violence against ANYONE, much less men, at least, not most of the time).

Great voice, beautiful songs
I loved all the songs, and find it hard to believe that she hasn't made it to the big time yet!

Don't be scared. Buy this cd.
This is my first Arlene Bishop cd, and the more I listen to it, the more I love it. Arlene Bishop sounds a lot like....Arlene Bishop. Her lyrics slide the knife between my ribs and twist, but in a good way. The song Invisible Woman is my favourite today. I reminds me of when I was all dressed up for the high school dance, and leaned forgotten against the wall of the gymnasium. I could have used an anthem then, but this cd didn't exist yet. Buy it.

the songs are great and her voice is also great .
The 40 minutes of folk music is unique and the songs are a great vehicle for a brilliant voice . I was very impressed with the lyrics . She is a talented folk performer who I am going to recomend to my friends who are into folk music over here in the uk .

Interesting Lyrics-cover takes a prize!

Dangerously good
Very different voice. Wasn't sure I'd like from listening to the samples. I don't like: I looove. Just logged in to buy all her other albums. Do yourself a favor and buy this excellent album. The one danger of this album is only for us guys: I like to listen to music while doing things around the house, and if you are a straight man, and find yourself doing dishes while singing (with relish) "if you cut a man's heart out, it will bleed", well, you have to wonder if maybe something is wrong with you :)

Must have
Amazing cd from start to finish. you have to buy this cd!!!!!

You'll be hooked
Love the sound of this artists voice. Just a unique sound with songs that are diverse and catchy. Can't believe all the finds I've discovered on cdbaby. Even like "Cut a Man's Heart Out", but suggest if you listen to it with a lady friend frisk her for any sharp objects. Several songs mirror life in Canada.
