ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
ABOUT ARTEMISIA:
Chicago-based vocal trio Artemisia harnesses the power of the female voice to explore complex social issues through the vocal traditions of the world.

Praised for “sincerity, wit, and mind-blowing technique” (Vocal Arts Chicago), Artemisia brings diversity and accessibility to their programming. Not your typical stand-and-sing ensemble, Artemisia draws from a vast repertoire of vocal styes to take audiences on a journey of sound and spirit with every performance.

ABOUT THE ALBUM:
“Sounds Like Us” - Artemisia’s debut album - is a celebration of color, contrast, and the raw power of the female voice. A prison work song from Texas; a lament from a heartbroken Queen Elizabeth; a hoeing song from the fields of Kartli, Georgia; a German farce about a cactus. Not only does this album sound like us and the wide range of music we love to sing and write, but we also hope it asks listeners to consider a broader definition of what “us” really means. “Us” means communities near and far. “Us” means people separated by walls or oceans, centuries or minutes. “Us” means all of us.
